What a fantastic night at Garage Bikes and Brews for our Big Ring Flyers Fall Celebration! We had such a wonderful turnout and the consensus was clear… a good time was had by all! Great food, fun awards, and awesome raffle prizes. Thank you to our many sponsors who donated prizes.
We also wrapped up the evening with board elections — and wow, what an incredible slate of candidates this year! Seven members stepped up to run for four open positions, and the voting was as close as it gets.
Congratulations to Dirk Anderson, Chad Zuleger, Brian Reed, and Nate Goodson on being elected to the BRF Board!
Several members were recognized with awards last night. Here is a summary of the many awards: Architect of Flow Award: John Leroy: Has made significant contributions to the creation, maintenance, and advocacy of trails and is recognized for his leadership, vision, and hands-on efforts in improving trail systems and access to outdoor spaces. Best Wheel Sucker Award: Jolene Burton: This person knows how to hold a wheel and isn't afraid to admit it. This person knows that sucking wheels means staying fresh, saving power, and in general riding smarter not harder.
Most Likely to Ride In a Hurricane Award (Rule 5): Scott Mason: The person embraces the suck that comes with outdoor riding. When most of us enjoy the comfort of our trainer, this person does not let rain, sleet, nor gale force winds deter them from getting in miles of smiles on the road.
Mountain Goat Award: Christine Zych: This person excels on any climb, shows relentless grit and skill to get up every ascent, and intentionally seeks out the hilliest terrain. This person has a sadistic love for all things elevation.
Turbo Trainer: Chris Stevens: This person can almost always be found on their trainer and isn't afraid to log hours upon hours in the pain cave.
Century Slayer Award: Scott Mason: This person is no stranger to 100 mile days in the saddle whether it be a casual Saturday ride or in the race arena. If it's not 100 miles is it even worth riding?
Ride Mom and Dad Award: Corey and Jolene Burton: These individuals exude mom and dad vibes, always making sure their riding buddies are accounted for, providing endless snacks, loads of encouragement, and the first to trouble shoot any situation. When riding with them you know you are always in good hands.
Flat Tire Fanatic Award (most flats): Kaylee and Ian Stutz: This person keeps the bike tire and tube industry in business. You've spent more time on the side of the road with this person than you have logging miles.
Over The Bar Award: Jamie Stamm: This award celebrates the individual who has perfected the OTB in the areas of flying through the air, sticking a landing better than an Olympic Gymnast, and perhaps a bump or two.
Dust Eater Award (most time on unpaved roads): Clayton Kaufer: This person prefers the off-road scene and can be found eating gravel or the single track dirt.
Social Saddle Award: Dirk Anderson: This person is the team social butterfly. They can hold a conversation with anyone, can be heard chatting away at the back of the pack, and excel at bringing people together on the bike.
Comeback Kid Award: Lisa Riemenschneider: This person has overcome significant adversity (illness, injury, life change) either on or off the bike. This person has overcome their adversity with determination, humility, grit, positivity, and tenacity that very few people possess.
Candid Camera Award: Wendy Stocker: This person excels in capturing all the moments on the bike, whether it be solo or in a group setting. This person takes more shots than a Hollywood filming crew. But let's be real, we all love a good action shot of ourselves.
