Ripley Varsity Vikings were victorious against Nicholas County Varsity Grizzlies Softball 6-5 on Wednesday.
Nicholas County Varsity Grizzlies Softball opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. Nicholas County Varsity Grizzlies Softball first got on the board when Zoe Nash singled, scoring one run.
A double by Myah Scott extended the Nicholas County Varsity Grizzlies Softball lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning.
Nicholas County Varsity Grizzlies Softball added one run in the third. Aleigha Stephenson doubled down the left field line, making the score 4-1.
Ripley Varsity Vikings flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 6-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Jalyn Ramsey that drove in two.
Mia Howerton earned the win for Ripley Varsity Vikings. The right-handed pitcher allowed 13 hits and five runs (four earned) over seven innings, striking out one and walking one. Abby Hilleary took the loss for Nicholas County Varsity Grizzlies Softball. The starter went seven innings, giving up six runs on 11 hits, striking out 10 and walking four.
Ripley Varsity Vikings accumulated 11 hits in the game. Kassidy Wilson and Addison Howery were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Ripley Varsity Vikings. Wilson and Ramsey were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Ripley Varsity Vikings. Ripley Varsity Vikings turned two double plays in the game.
Nicholas County Varsity Grizzlies Softball amassed 13 hits in the game. Nash and Stephenson each collected three hits for Nicholas County Varsity Grizzlies Softball. Scott went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Makenzie Hanshaw and Maddie Burns each collected multiple hits for Nicholas County Varsity Grizzlies Softball. Nicholas County Varsity Grizzlies Softball were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Nash made the most plays with 10.
