Monteview, Idaho cowboy Tristen Hutchings is currently sitting in first place in the PRCA Bull Riding World Standings, ahead of Stetson Wright by about $2000.
Few bull riders have climbed the ranks of professional rodeo as quickly or as impressively as this talented young cowboy. With career earnings of more than $1.35 million and four consecutive Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifications from 2022 through 2025, he has firmly established himself among the sport's elite.
Standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 170 pounds, he grew up in a family deeply connected to rodeo. His parents, Shanna Swan and Lane, encouraged his passion from an early age, while sisters Alexis and Timmi pursued successful careers of their own in breakaway roping and barrel racing. His rodeo journey began at just four years old riding sheep before quickly advancing to calves and eventually bulls.
Long before becoming one of rodeo's top bull riders, he developed his competitive edge on the wrestling mat and football field. A wrestler for ten years, he qualified for the state tournament during all four years of high school. He also played football from fifth grade through high school, lining up at linebacker and defensive end.
Along the way, he has drawn inspiration from some of the best in the business, including Wrangler NFR qualifiers Ky Hamilton, the 2023 PRCA World Champion, Colten Fritzlan, and Roscoe Jarboe.
His success inside the arena continues to grow. Entering the second half of the 2025 season, he sits fifth in the PRCA World Standings with nearly $400,000 in earnings. His strong performances have also positioned him tenth in the Wrangler NFR standings, where he has already earned more than $103,000.
Among his favorite rodeo memories is winning the Nephi, Utah, Xtreme Bulls in 2022, a victory he says capped off "the best season of my life." He also counts the Ellensburg Rodeo in Washington as his favorite stop on the road because of its outstanding rodeo committee and lucrative purse.
When he's not chasing world titles, he enjoys bow hunting, fishing and golf. A fan of the movie "Legends of the Fall," he also appreciates a good steak after a successful day in the arena.
Still young, hungry and already among the sport's top contenders, he continues to pursue the same dream that began on the back of a sheep at four years old — one ride at a time.
