Thank you to all who have made Lightning Bolt Fishing Adventures a rousing success. I am moving to another state for completely non fishing and non business related reasons. I will be setting up shop in my new destination guiding bass, striper, crappie and catfish. Will let people know once I've finished the process of relocation.

It is time for a top to bottom purge of Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Highline Lake is likely to be drained and they have already removed all bag limits on the fishery to attempt (and likely fail) once again to kill the mussels.

For the most part, other states do not do this, but just leave the mussels because they value recreation and the sportsmen more than crooked lobbyists who cry over "water water water".

I will be contacting local representatives and make it CLEAR that if they do not make a serious attempt to stop this, they WILL NOT get our votes. The CPW has NO RIGHT to unilaterally rule by decree and just declare what they are going to do.

More zebra mussels found at a Colorado lake could threaten outdoor recreation

Well it was a great ice season. Recent rains have rendered lower elevation ice unsafe. Now booking open water trips. Thanks to everyone who came out to fish with us this year. Quality of fish was great, even though the bite was tough at times.

It's that time of year again. April through mid May and into June is the best open water bite of the year. Big pike with numbers, tons of smallmouth and large amounts of Walleye come calling. Pretty open now, but spots fill fast. Opening April 1st with the Ramps.

Last call for "icahol" this season. Ice will be safe for another 2 to 3 weeks, and some of the best pike fishing of the year is coming as pike are in pre spawn mode moving shallow. Perch, walleye and bass will start feeding heavier too as they near their spawns. Not much time left, and not much room left on my schedule. If you want to catch some fish like these, now is the time to book.

Always release smallmouth bass on the Western Slope. Never listen to the CPW about what fish should be kept or not kept. They want to destroy our pike and smallmouth fisheries. Let's preserve them. If you want fish for the table, perch, small walleye, crappie, catfish, and smaller trout are ideal. Smallmouth bass, pike, and largemouth bass are incompatible with harvest in Colorado on the Western Slope. If you see people keeping these fish, talk to them. Tell them their harvest is damaging the fishery, and there are plenty of other species they can eat that are compatible with harvest and a renewable resource. Always do the opposite of what the CPW says.

Pike and walleye are on the chomp, as well as perch and even nice bluegill. Smallmouth have slowed down but we are catching them still. Have a couple openings left this month, then booked almost solidly till Valentines day. Right now bigger pike in the low to mid 30s are starting to show. Bite is picking up once again. Book now for the mid to late ice rush. Pike will be pre spawn in about a month and big girls will be moving shallow in droves.
