St. Andrew's, St. Joe and Prep Sailing Students have inaugurated use of the John W. McGowan Sailing Center. St. Andrew's students started the practices off, braving a chilly, blustry day on the water February 20. Fortunately, the McGowan Center's classroom has a heater for for the students to gather in and dry off! St. Joe followed a few days later with nearly 20 students, and then Prep. The Center's room has all the teaching tools: a tv for playing back videos of the day's sailing, a blackboard with magnetic boat pieces and a tactics and course table. The McGowan Sailing Center is off to an enthusiastic start!

AND THE WINNERS ARE...Dr. Bart DeLashmet, Randy Boyles, Bishop Blackwell, Guy Bowering and Brad Martin who split the $10,000 pot five ways. Bishop Blackwell worked on the Registration Desk upstairs and only learned this morning that he was a winner. Of course we had to tease him that he was paid a devilishly delightful $666.66/hour for his 3 hours of work. Brad Martin won his number in the live auction of 4 Drawdown numbers near the end of the Drawdown that allowed ticket holders to buy back in. Congratulations to our Winners! We appreciate the hard work of all our volunteers and contributors who gave us our Fifth successful Drawdown-- one that will allow us to complete and equip the John W. McGowan Sailing Center as a first class sailing instruction Center.

The Foundation and JYC participated in a walk-through of the Sailing Center with the contractor, David Dodd and the architect, John Weaver, to create a final punch list. Dale Currie and Tom Williams were busy inside installing shelving for main sails, jibs and spinnakers for all the student C420s and Optis. If you haven't yet bought your ticket to the Drawdown to help us finish the Center, please do so at: https://www.rezcommunitysailing.org We need and appreciate your support as we move to finish paying the Foundation's share of the construction and installation of equipment for a first class sailing instruction Center.

The Patron's Party Tuesday February 11 at Tara McGowan's home will feature the live auction by auctioneer William Head of three paintings shown here.

The paintings include a beautiful water landscape by Greg Cartmell, nationally recognized as one of the country's foremost landscape painters. The scene of sailboats on the line is by Mississippi artist Charles Guess who has shown his works at galleries throughout Mississippi. JYC artist Jacqueline Ellen's painting, "Rounding the Mark", is of 420 sailboats in last Fall's High School Regatta of the Foundation at JYC. Jackie is a very fine artist who has captured the graceful movement of sailboats in regattas at JYC.

If any of the pieces do not make their minimum bids, they will be placed in the extensive silent auction of many offerings at the Drawdown Party February 20 planned by auctions Chair Renita Sprecher. Click on the pieces for additional details. Tickets are available here: https://www.rezcommunitysailing.org

Yes, The Roof Goes On! It's been a while a'coming but Sailing Center project Superintendent Rusty Smith let us know that the distinctive standing seam metal roof went on the building this afternoon. Lot's of touch up still to do along with installation of the railings for the pavilion. And Dale Currie is working on equipment for the interior. The St. Joe High School saiing team is now more than fully subscribed and joins the Prep and St. Andrew's teams this Spring, to be followed by First Sail Day and the summer Sailing Camp as well as Adult Sailing lessons. Please support our work to finish the Center by buying your ticket today to the $10,000 Mardi Gras Drawdown February 20 at JYC if you haven't already by clicking here: https://www.rezcommunitysailing.org
