Ever wondered what's hiding under your handlebar tape? 🧐 It’s probably time for a refresh!

Most riders should change their bar tape at least once a year, but if you're a heavy sweater or a frequent indoor trainer user, every 3 to 6 months is safer.
Here is why it's more than just a "clean look":
* Stop the Rot: Sweat acts like an acid, trapping salt against your bars. This can lead to severe corrosion(pitting) on aluminum bars, sometimes causing them to snap unexpectedly during a ride. On carbon bars, the salts in your sweat can degrade the coating and allow fibers underneath to separate, thus weakening the bar.
* Ride in Comfort: Over time, tape loses its elasticity and stops absorbing road vibrations, which can lead to hand numbness and fatigue.
* Better Control: Fresh tape provides the tacky grip you need for safe handling, especially in the rain or when your hands are sweaty.
* Safety Check: Removing old tape is the only way to inspect your bars for hairline cracks and check that your shifter cables aren't fraying.
The "New Bike" Feel: It’s the cheapest way to make your ride feel brand new again! Plus, it’s the perfect excuse to try a new color or brand or type. 🎨
Don't wait until it starts peeling—keep your cockpit safe and comfy! 🚲💨

Hello Cycling Community:

As we continue to experience a prolonged period of cold weather, we need to be reminded of the importance of proper hydration.

Here are the key reasons why staying hydrated is crucial, both on and off the bike in the Winter.

1. Masked Thirst
- In cold weather, you may not feel as thirsty as you would in warmer temperatures. This can lead to neglecting your fluid intake, making it easy to become dehydrated without realizing it.

2. Increased Respiratory Loss
- Cold air is often dry, and breathing in this air can cause moisture loss. You exhale water v***r, which can contribute to dehydration over time. Additionally, indoor heating systems can further reduce humidity, leading to increased water loss.

3. Higher Caloric Expenditure
- Riding in colder conditions requires more energy as your body works to maintain its core temperature. This increased energy expenditure can lead to a higher need for fluids to support metabolism.

4. Maintaining Body Temperature
- Proper hydration helps regulate your body temperature. When dehydrated, your body struggles to maintain heat, which can lead to quicker exhaustion and increased susceptibility to cold-related illnesses.

Key Takeaway

Maintaining proper hydration during winter rides is just as important as it is during warmer months. The best rule is to drink when you are thirsty, when you are not thirsty, and all the times in between.

Keep spinning those pedals!

🚴‍♂️ **Keep Your Ride Smooth!** 🚴‍♀️

How well is your chain lubricated? As a shop, we see the extremes - dry, noisy, rusty chains to chains caked with grease and dirt. If you want to keep your bike running smoothly and extend the life of your chain, here’s the way to properly lubricate it!

# # # 📝 **Step-by-Step Guide to Lubricating Your Bicycle Chain:**

1. **Gather Your Supplies**: You’ll need a good bicycle chain lubricant, clean rags, a brush, and a degreaser if your chain is dirty. Note: Use a dry l**e for dry, dusty conditions, or a wet l**e for wet or muddy conditions.

2. **Clean the Chain**:
- Inspect for dirt and grime.
- Use a degreaser to clean it thoroughly, or use a chain cleaner tool if you have one.
- Wipe it down with a rag to remove any residue.

3. **Apply Lubricant**:
- Position the chain on the smallest gear for easy access.
- Drip lubricant onto each link while pedaling backward to ensure even coverage.

4. **Let It Settle**: Allow the lubricant to pe*****te for about 5-10 minutes.

5. **Wipe Excess**: Use a clean rag to remove any excess lubricant from the outside of the chain to prevent dirt buildup.

6. **Regular Maintenance**: Aim to lubricate every 100–200 miles or after wet rides!

Taking a few minutes to properly lubricate your chain can make a huge difference in performance and longevity! 🚲💨

Happy Cycling!
