Women in Construction Week 2024 is coming to a close - but our work doesn't stop after this 1 week. It's important for women in construction, and women everywhere to keep lifting each other up. Keep working to show we can do the jobs too, and keep fighting for equal pay!

Unpopular opinion? Women in construction should make the same as men in construction.

Thoughts?

One mistake I made early on in my career in construction sales is underselling myself...and sometimes my products.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I think women tend to undersell themselves, instead of overselling. We take the more conservative approach.

If a job listing said the candidate needs to have 10 specific skills, and I had 9 of them, I wouldn't apply bc I didn't have that 10th skill.

Men....they do it differntly 🤔

But later on in life I learnt that things aren't always black and white. Often, I was the best candidate for the job, was more than qualified and had tons of experience that brought more to the table than that 10th skill did. In the end, not only did I lose, but my company and their clients ended up with a less qualified candidate.

Lesson learnt! Of course, never lie when you're selling yourself, but DON'T sell yourself short either! You're more powerful than you think you are!

Happy Women in Construction Week! It takes a brave woman to work in an industry traditionally dominated by men.

There's still unequal pay, and a lot of bias towards women in the industry. And, lots of other industries.

It's our job to lift each other up, and support each other.

If you're dealing with a struggling sales team, jump in there and show them how it's done. Managers that walk the walk and talk the talk get more respect from employees.

To start off Women in Construction Week - let's put 1 common misbelief to rest.

Do women have it easier in construction because they're women?

To say that would imply women use their looks to get ahead. So, it's a hard no!

The leaders in the construction industry are smarter than that. When I was in sales, it came to the quality of the product I was selling, and my ability to communicate the value to whoever I was pitching. If architects, builders, and developers made decisions based on how good looking the sales person was....they're buildings wouldn't be around too long!

Women have an uphill battle working in an industry traditionally filled with men. There's a long way to go to balance the inequities, so it's remarkable to celebrate women in the industry this week!

As an executive, you might THINK you have more problems then you actually do. There's a difference between a problem and an annoyance.

A problem prevents you from achieving your goals.

An annoyance, just bugs you...but isn't a priority to deal with always.

Separate the problems from the annoyances, and you'll feel a weight off your shoulders. It's the first step to shifting your focus to what matters most.

Executives are under a lot of pressure. Especially, when it comes to meeting your performance goals.

In the new remote work environment, leaders need new strategies to build strong, successful teams.

As an executive coach, I help navigate the challenges you face so you can focus on running your company.
