I am currently active duty serving in the United States Navy as an Avionics Technician working on F/A-18 E/F and EA-18G aircraft. I have been training jiu jitsu for about nine years now, off and on because of my job. I originally started Gracie Jiu Jitsu at Precision Jiu Jitsu under John and Jessi Ralph back in February 2011, because I wanted to learn self defense. When I joined the military in 2013, I ended up moving to Washington, and trained at Chimera Mixed Martial Arts, which was a Gracie Barra Seattle affiliate. I was only able to train for a year before my schedule and a deployment took me away from training. When I moved to Ridgecrest in 2018 I started training again with Jimmy and Lisa Smith under Blacksmith Jiu Jitsu, but a chronic hip injury impeded my efforts to train. After my hip surgery in August 2019 I went back to training with John and Jessi Ralph for a time, who were now in San Diego teaching at Studio 540, where I received my blue belt. I love jiu jitsu, and even though it has taken me nine years to feel like I've progressed in the sport, my persistence has taught me patience and allowed me to learn on my own terms. I hope to bring that same love and resilience to those I coach and interact with. I don't think there is anything more valuable than helping women feel empowered and strong by training jiu jitsu.
