Early in his high school career, James Wood senior Michael Thompson's life took an unexpected turn. After being a healthy, active kid with a lifelong love of swimming, two unforeseen chronic illness diagnoses — ulcerative colitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis of the liver — put him on the sidelines. Thompson was able to make a comeback. He'll graduate this evening from James Wood High School having competed in swimming at the regional and state levels three times.
