A word to the wise: starting Saturday April 25th, the section of Northbank from the Pumphouse Trailhead parking lot to the lower ramp below Stairway to Heaven will be closed due to the ramp demolition and construction of the new trail.

The Trail Crew is gonna try to get this thing finished and open ASAP, in its most incredible final form. We were hoping we’d not see a closure/detour - but in the name of finishing it all up, we gotta give em some space!

For now, enjoy a Byrd Park detour and HARK! back to thee olde ways that we used to have to ride Northbank…with Stairway as our entrance and exit.

A reroute is marked with yellow arrows, and also lives digitally on the rvaMORE Ride With GPS account if you need to check it out.

The closure is expected to last two weeks.

Signs are posted, spread word!

The lower ramp will be removed Saturday the 25th, a.k.a. NEXT Saturday.

Enjoy your weekend trail time, we think you’re gonna love the Trail Crew’s new vision for this hillside.

Much like the Buttermilk Ramp, you’ll see a new trail in its place that will be improved in stages. We want to leave features rideable whenever, so we will start with a dirt trail for now. The next phase will be to install rock armoring, when the ramp replacement will take its final form.

Basically - the trail won’t be exactly “FINISHED” on the 25th - so bear with us while we let it stabilize then go back to finish it up.

🚨The revised Buttermilk Trail is SOFT LAUNCHING, folks.🚨

And by SOFT LAUNCH we remind you that the dirt is very SOFT and rocky so please don’t LAUNCH yourself while you get used to the beginnings of the new feature.

Take it easy. Preride it mindfully. Maybe even stop and take a looksee first.

There is still A LOT of work to do here to bring the Trail Crew’s vision to full fruition, but that section is back open for now.

Have a fun 10k tomorrow, maybe we’ll see you out there for a recovery hike.

Allright - now for the Part Two of our HUGE Northbank Spring project…we need your help on Saturday April 25th as we dismantle and remove the lower half of the wooden ramp below Stairway to Heaven. After we hike ramp sections up to street level, we’ll install a completely new trail reroute that will connect you back to Northbank on natural surfaced trail. We think this is going to be a very cool new section!
It will be a busy day over near Maymont with the annual “Herbs Galore” sale happening just nlocks away from our work project - we can’t encourage it enough that you carpool or ride your bike for transportation for this one. There should be ample parking around the Texas Beach lot if needed - and it is just a short walk to the worksite.
We meet at 9am at the trailhead at Kansas and Hampton!
Head to the events calendar on our website for more info, or to the link in our bio to RSVP.

HAPPY 3-11!!

Just a reminder that not only can you use 311 to help report issues on streets, sidewalks, and alleys - but you can report an issue in City of Richmond parks as well - even down to specific trail blockages or damage!

Download the RVA311 app to your phone, snap a photo, and drop a location. The process is easy and helps our crew identify downed trees and other trail problems across the many parks in the City.
