Musings on the Market

The importance of understanding in-the-moment market risers.

Griffey has always been the belle of the baseball hobby ball, but he along with Shaq, Kobe, Jordan (fellow 90s stars) has recently seen a spike in market value.

Dust off those old 90s/early 2000s cards because the latest push fueled by nostalgia and rarity (given the age of those cards now) is showing no sign of slowing. Values are climbing for the right names.

I scooped this 2000 Griffey Game-Used relic card at my LCS for $25. Immediately knew that was low for such a desirable player. I then sold it for $50, a nice profit that ended up paying for the other singles I scooped.

Dig into those discount/dollar boxes because you never know what you may find!

The Kurtz/McGwire dual auto has been sold to an avid A’s collector.

Sharing this for 2 reasons.

1. Negotiation and comps. Just because there is a higher comp doesn’t mean you get that or even an average when there are so few comps. The buyer rightfully pointed out the $600 comp was on 49 bids. We all try to maximize our sales but you have to be willing to see the other end of the negotiation.

2. This guy is right. It’s about more than just money. What I didn’t know upon landing on the final number was his brother was also an avid A’s fan. He unfortunately passed away in May. Glad it’s going to this guy!
