Not far from our fields lived a legend who not only was well known on the stage behind the drums, but one who also shared a love for Lamar baseball.
Our community mourns the death of an incredible artist and we are saddened for his family, especially his twin sons Nico and Rory who played baseball here at our fields. Frank coached both of his boys at Lamar and will be incredibly missed by so many.

The City of Richmond joins our community and music fans around the world in mourning the loss of legendary ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard.
While the world knew Frank as the drummer behind “That Little Ol’ Band from Texas,” here in Richmond, he was also a neighbor and part of our community.
From the familiar Top 40 Ranch, to visits to local restaurants and the golf course, to catching a glimpse of the ZZDRUMS license plate around town, Frank’s presence was woven into Richmond in a special way. He was one of us.
Frank and ZZ Top gave Texas—and Richmond—countless reasons to be proud as their music as it reached generations of fans around the world.
On behalf of the City of Richmond, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Frank’s family, friends, bandmates, and the generations of music fans who loved him and the music he helped create.
