VCU Outdoor Adventure Program

The Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP) has been incorporating outdoor trips, equipment rental, teambuilding and more into the VCU community since 1982.

Since 1984 the Outdoor Adventure Program has offered student lead trips, clinics and gear rentals. Trips have included rafting, kayaking, climbing, canoeing, caving and hiking. In 2010 the OAP began operating the Cary Street Gym's Rock Wall and in 2012 the OAP opened a bike shop and invested in a fleet of road and mountain bikes. Want to take your lead climbing to the next level? Whether you’re learning or leading hard already, join us on THIS Sunday to climb new routes set for lead only! Push yourself to stick the move or take a whip, and sharpen your skills on the sharp end with your friends from 4-8pm on Sunday 4/12

⭐️Lead instructors will be present to help you practice or learn more about lead climbing!⭐️

When the student becomes the teacher….. invite your professor to climb THIS FRIDAY from 2-7. Registered non-member faculty can get free admission to the Cary St Gym for this event, so don’t miss your chance for a night of climbing and bonding.

Whether you just started climbing or you’re an avid lead climber, whether you’re a student or faculty, we have a climbing wall special event for YOU🫵this spring☀️🌻🌱We hope you’ll join us for Climbing Project Night🏆, Invite a Professor to Climb🧑‍🏫👨‍🎨👩‍🔬, and Stick it or Whip it🧗🏼‍♀️‼️

🧗Climbing project night: setters create difficult routes in the beginner, intermediate, and advanced category. Those who send the routes get to name them!

🧗Invite a Professor to Climb: professors are encouraged to invite their students and students are encouraged to invite their professors to climb. Registered non-member faculty can get FREE admission to the Cary St Gym for this event, so don’t miss you chance to come climb for FREE

🧗Stick it or Whip it: setters will create new routes with a focus on lead climbing. Sport climbing instructors will be present for impromptu lead clinics or lead climbing practice. This is a great way to practice or learn more about lead climbing in a fun, low stakes environment.
