SARCOPENIA: What Is It and Why Should You Care? πͺ
Have you ever heard of Sarcopenia?
Sarcopenia is the age-related loss of muscle mass, strength, and function that naturally occurs as we get older. While aging is inevitable, losing muscle doesn't have to be!
πΉ What Happens?
Beginning as early as our 30s, we can start losing muscle tissue if we are not actively working to maintain it. This can lead to:
βοΈ Decreased strength
βοΈ Poor balance and stability
βοΈ Increased risk of falls and injuries
βοΈ Slower metabolism
βοΈ Reduced independence as we age
πΉ What Causes Sarcopenia?
β’ Lack of resistance training
β’ Low protein intake
β’ Sedentary lifestyle
β’ Hormonal changes associated with aging
β’ Chronic health conditions
πΉ How Can You Fight It?
β
Strength train 2-4 times per week
β
Eat adequate protein with every meal
β
Stay physically active daily
β
Prioritize recovery and quality sleep
β
Stay consistent, regardless of your age
