250 years ago today, 56 men stood in a hot, humid room in Philadelphia. They knew full well that if they failed in this endeavor, they would all be executed by hanging. Yet, they turned out a document that changed the world. In that document they collectively said, "In support of this Declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of the divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor." Of hose 56 patriots, 9 were killed in combat, 5 were captured, tortured, and killed by the British, twelve had their homes destroyed, two lost sons in combat, and 17 lost everything they owned. Yet, not one of those 56 men defected or went back on his pledged word. As you enjoy the fireworks and hot dogs and hamburgers, think of the sacrifice they made for our freedom. Have a blessed day, Louisa & Grant.
