Casco has such a great reputation that I knew about before I moved to New England. Once I knew I was moving to Maine, it was my goal to be a part of Casco. “I joined Casco after skating with Xavier (otherwise known as “Some Skater Named X”) for 3 years at open skates. I wanted to see how else someone can gain confidence, comfort and joy as he has on 8 wheels. I quickly found an extension of the skating community I had been enjoying. More people who focus on "What can this body do!?" More people who find rolling to be an effective way to quiet chaotic brains.

My favorite thing is how welcoming, encouraging, and passionate the members are. Being new to roller derby can be intimidating, but when everyone around is giving feedback kindly, and tips on how to improve and is constantly smiling/laughing it gives motivation to keep learning. We have taken the month of August off, but that doesn’t mean we’re just sitting around. On Saturday Slay-La competed in her first western dressage event with Drifter and took home first and third place! YoHoHo!!!
