Big Catch Chetek Report: The cold fronts are tough on the fishermen in Chetek. I like the temperature hot on the Chain. This morning, I took Ralph out for a morning of bobber fishing for bluegills & a little walleye fishing. Each spot we’d stop at, the bobbers would go down early, but after a few minutes the bite went cold. Yesterday, I rained out of my guide trip. My son and I have been exploring some new river spots for future clients. Back at it tomorrow!

Big Catch Chetek Report for Tuesday: I picked up Bill and Dan up at the Cantina at 7AM. We hit 5 different spots today using leaches, night crawlers and red worms. The guys made me laugh all morning. It didn’t hurt that the fishing was pretty good today! Best of luck on your Vacation! On a side note, I only have the 17th of June open on the guide calendar. There are more openings in July after the 4th.

Big Catch Chetek Report: Guiding has been hard work the past couple of days. I might have to get a Livescope! lol! Anyway it was hot out there over the weekend, but today was refreshing with the rain. The bluegills are still biting good with walleyes changing locations now. I was happy to see some keepers come in the boat. The bass have really been nice this spring. We’ll see if things change again tomorrow, but I continue to have the best clients in the world! Best of luck fishing the Six Lakes Chain this week!

Big Catch Chetek Report: Today is my last day at my real job, so I plan on being on the water at 6AM tomorrow! In the mean time, the Dungeon Lure Company was up fishing the Chain the past few days. They gave it a 7 out of 10 for catching! I have some new custom lures to try out on the Chain! My only guiding this week was with my beloved clients from Arizona. They stay at King Fisher Resort LLC on the Chetek Chain of Lakes. Dan and Maria tried so hard on Tuesday to bag a musky. They aren’t going home until the end of the month so we’re going to keep casting soon. We had a few nice follows on the river. Just FYI, the river is is the lowest I’ve ever seen it so get ready to get out and pull and don’t think about trying a boat with any kind of weight.

Big Catch Chetek Report: Yesterday, it was a beautiful morning to be picking up Randy and Bill from the Lazy Moose Campground on Moose Ear Lake. This was our first time out fishing together. The guys were full of great enthusiasm and fun to be with all morning. Bill caught a really nice slot fish on our first stop. Later we went after some bluegills. The guys were catching fish on light tackle but quite a few that hit the boat were smaller. As the morning progressed the bluegills got bigger, but we didn’t get anymore walleyes. I stopped at a spot and nothing was showing up on the Hummingbird. After I dropped the guys off, I picked up my good friend Tony from Chicago and the walleyes showed up. The wind had picked up and the waves started to turn for a prime walleye chop. Tony caught his limit. Then we went to Casa Mexica with our wives. It was a great day!

Big Catch Report: I didn’t fish over the three day weekend. At 49, I just needed a break from the boat, wanted to do old people stuff like plant flowers and visit with my wife. On Tuesday, I picked up Jim and Jason at Twin Pines. We started out trolling for walleyes and then switched to bluegills. The guys caught a pile of bluegills of all sizes on the St. Croix Panfish rods. Those rods are fun with a spring bobber. We switched back to walleye at the end of the trip. Sometimes I fall flat on my face with the walleyes because they just move around a lot and timing is everything. Last night, I did some exploring on some new areas on the Chain. I caught about six different species of fish just flipping a small jig and a leach around the fallen wood. Best of luck fishing on another beautiful day. On a side note, there is a lot of walleye this year at 14 7/8 so they should be keepers by September!

Big Catch Chetek Report: On Wednesday, I picked up some new guys at King Fisher Resort. I tried to show the walleye bite, but every spot we stopped at was kind of dead so we switched to bluegills up shallow. The male bluegills were biting good on red worms. We threw every thing back. On Thursday, Ed and Leland wanted to try for Musky so we did a river float. I think we had a chance at one musky and caught some smallmouth. I had to make a call into the Rod & Gun for more Musky Line because of a few birds nest. lol! Later, Mike & Kathy hopped into the boat. We caught a spunky fish pretty quick and had several other nice fish hooked , but got unpinned. Last night, I took Jesse and his Dad out from Oak Grove. We found a few spots out of the wind and caught some walleyes. We kept four fish, The others were short of the 15 inch mark. I’m resting and do chores today. Best of Luck @ the Bulldog Booster Bluegill Tournament!
