I like to say “use it or lose it” when someone asks about training for long-term health. If your daily habits are signalling to your body that you no longer lift heavy things, run long distances, or even take the stairs frequently, it will lose its capacity to do those things well...and eventually the capacity to do them at all.

Maybe you lifted in your 20s but time has gone by and a desk job has you seated all day. Feeling tight and weak? It’s not just because a decade or two has passed. Aging is not the same as being detrained.

If you want to feel stronger, it takes commitment and a good plan. Consistent efforts at fueling your body and progressive overload at the gym.

2. Excessive Volume—more is not always better. Meet yourself where you are NOW, not what you used to do or used to be capable of enduring.

It’s simply your body repairing after stress.
If you’re getting back into lifting after years of desk work or time away, being extremely sore every session isn’t a badge of honor.
It’s often a sign the jump was too big.
