Fun Friday will look a little different this summer! I have switched to a summer schedule of teaching lessons Monday through Thursday. Yesterday was my first Friday morning off in a long while, and I made the best of it! I started with Yoga at , then drove up to Tahoe, biked from Incline to Sand Harbor and spent the day with my bestie on the beach and paddle boarding. I then biked back and finish up my Incline Village session with some parent lessons!

It was a day where I was so thankful for where I live, the community that supports me, and for my health so that I can enjoy Tahoe this way!

So excited for more Fridays at Tahoe. And don't worry, the Fun Friday concept at lessons will just be on Thursdays. I just need to come up with a catchy name for it!

It can be hard to watch your child cry on swim lessons, but children cry when they are learning something that is challenging. One benefit of children crying during Infant Swimming Resource lessons is that they learn to stabilize a float while crying so that they can get someone’s attention if they had an accidental fall-in.

Lungs are like balloons and when filled add buoyancy in the water. But when a child is crying, they expel that air, which changes the water levels around their face. Learning to hold a float calmly while those water levels fluctuate with the breath is a critical survival skill!

Once a child gains skills in the water, their confidence often replaces the tears with smiles. It is so important that you stick with lessons through the tears!

Part two of my conversation with Dr. Raman at Summit Pediatrics! We talked about some of the layers of protection against drowning, including barriers and Self-Rescue swim lessons. Remember that an effective drowning prevention strategy has multiple layers of protection!

Layers of protection include:
🛟 Adult supervision
🛟 Coast Guard Certified life vests on and around open water
🛟 Emergency preparedness and learning pediatric CPR
🛟 Barriers and alarms
🛟 Self-Rescue swim lessons

I had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Raman of Summit Pediatrics to talk about water safety. She talks about the importance of adult supervision in most of her appointments!

“It’s really important to remember that drowning is quick and it’s silent.”
