The members of this foursome were very close friends, avid golfers who maintained spirited competition among themselves when on the golf course. Kottinger, Sr., Delbert Machabee, Link Piazzo and Emmett Saviers

dreamed of building an exclusive private golf course surrounded by attractive homes and void of any commercial business permits. In pursuit of this dream, they signed their names on the original documents as founders of the new county club. They immediately retained the services of Raymond M. Smith, a Planning Engineer with a degree from Harvard University. Smith's jobs was to assist in the locating of suitable raw land site adjacent to the city of Reno that would accommodate the scope of their plan. In a short space of time, several locations were visited and considered. One of the properties was a nine hundred acre ranch parcel owned by J.A. Birbeck, nestled in the foothills of southeast Reno. After much conversation and negotiating a price was agreed upon for the entire parcel. Memorial Day 1958 - The golf course opened.
