Mecosta Field Project ❤️⚾
First and foremost, THANK YOU to everyone who came out yesterday to help us get started on our BIG Mecosta Field Project! We truly cannot put into words how much we appreciate everyone who gave their time, energy, and effort to help make this vision a reality.
To every veteran, coach, parent, player, community member, and board member who showed up — THANK YOU! Every person who picked up a shovel, moved dirt, worked on the fields, or simply showed up to support our kids made a HUGE impact. What we accomplished yesterday was just the beginning, but it was an incredible first step. ❤️
For those who may not know exactly what we have planned, we are working toward a major improvement to our Mecosta fields. Our goal is to pick up Field 1 and rotate it so that it faces the opposite direction. We are also planning to add a batting cage and a press box/storage building, along with improvements to the fencing, dirt, dugouts, and other necessary field upgrades.
The estimated cost of this entire project is around $15,000.
That is a BIG project for our league, but the impact it could have on our players and our community is even bigger.
By completing this project, we would be able to add two additional playable fields in Mecosta. That means our Major and Minor boys would no longer have to make the drive to Weidman every night just to have a place to play. It would give our kids more opportunities to practice and play right here in our own community.
But it goes even further than that.
Having additional quality fields would also give Chippewa Hills Little League the opportunity to host tournaments right here in our community. That means bringing other teams, families, and visitors into Mecosta County — creating an opportunity to showcase our league and our community while giving our own players the chance to play in tournaments close to home.
Our board is committed to making this happen without using all of our league funds to complete the project. Our board members have already spent many hours working on grant applications, researching funding opportunities, and putting together plans for some BIG fundraising efforts in the near future.
We are also incredibly thankful to have the Mecosta VFW standing alongside us and supporting this project. Their partnership and support are going to be an important part of helping us move this vision forward.
And now, we are making our FIRST ASK of our community.
One of the grants we are applying for is asking us to provide letters of support explaining why this project is important and necessary for our community and, most importantly, for the children who live here.
If you believe this project would benefit our kids, our families, and our community, we would be incredibly grateful if you would take a few minutes to write a letter of support.
It doesn't have to be fancy. It doesn't have to be long. Simply sharing why you believe having improved baseball facilities and additional fields in Mecosta is important can make a difference.

This project isn't just about dirt, fences, dugouts, or buildings.
It's about giving our kids a place to play.
It's about giving them opportunities.
