It’s been a great couple of weekends, as a few of our members collected hardware at a couple local events in preparation for a busy fall competition schedule.
Christina Martinez took home her first Gold Medal, earning a submission in the finals of Grappling Industries
Joining in on the fun, a handful of youth members also toed the line and didn’t disappoint. 𝐆𝐢𝐨 𝐉𝐑 and B.J added to the collection, earning double gold and double silver, respectively. Both young men were competing up a weight class in the yellow belt division, and certainly received the challenges they were looking for. Lily and Jordyn just missed the podium, but both earned wins and submissions in deep brackets. Both ladies stepped on the mat on 9 occasions, and the experience will pay dividends moving forward!
Not to be outdone, Roman put on a show this past weekend at Good Fight Tournament . If his arms are looking bigger this week, it’s probably from all the extra weight he had to carry around in his gym bag after earning 3 medals at the event. Reaching the finals on 3 occasions, Roman earned two Golds and a Silver after a hard days work on the mats.
Congrats to all the grapplers who tested their skills so far in September. We’re looking forward to new challenges to close out the year, and hope even more of our competitors will throw their hats in the ring for our next trip.
Just a reminder, we run a rotating Competition Training session monthly, hosted by the different Ground Control gyms in the area. It’s a session for all the competitors to receive new looks on the mat and help expand their arsenals from the different coaches and competitors they don’t often get to train with. This session is always open and welcoming to all teams in the area, even those not affiliated with the Ground Control program, and we’ve been fortunate to have gyms from around the state send their competitors to participate. Our next session will be in October, so stay tuned for dates and locations of the upcoming sessions.
