M2 Fitness

M2 Fitness M² Fitness is a 1:1 personal training facility. M² Fitness is a personal training facility. We primarily work 1:1 with clients but also offer 2:1 training.

We are set up to work with all demographics ranging from novice athletes to athletes training for competition and to anyone suffering from injury or other medical conditions. Using a team approach to training, we can prevent plateaus, which often leads to a weakened commitment, by using different styles and techniques. This has been proven to have better results than working with a single trainer.

My blood pressure is still high from this weekends race. Barely avoided taking out another rider. Excuse my language.

Foam rolling doesn’t need to be complicated.

M2 Fitness Trainer Jantzen demonstrates five simple foam rolling variations targeting some of the major muscle groups we use every day in training:

• Quadriceps
• Adductors
• Glutes
• Calves
• Lats

The goal isn’t to rush through each area. Move slowly, control the amount of pressure, and spend a little extra time on areas that feel particularly tight.

Foam rolling can be a useful part of a warm-up, cool-down, or recovery routine—especially when paired with regular strength training and mobility work.

Save this one for your next training or recovery session.

Strong finish at the CDC season finale in Hood River. Post Canyon is a different animal than what I’m used to. Was very unsure of my performance but happy to come out on top with a 1st place and a 2nd overall for the season. I told myself that if I could get top 3 for the overall I’d move up to expert category next season. Competition won’t be any different in the expert category but instead of the 3-4 stages of sport I’ll now be doing the 5-6 stages of expert. Big thanks to Race Cascadia for another epic season.

PULL-UP VARIATIONS 💪

M2 Fitness trainer Shawn demonstrates two ways to incorporate pull-ups into your training: close/neutral grip and wide grip.

Both variations build the lats, upper back and arms, but changing your grip gives you a slightly different pulling angle and stimulus.

For mountain bikers, strong lats and upper-back musculature help support your position on the bike and your ability to control and pull the bike underneath you—especially when riding aggressively through technical terrain.

For the general population, pull-ups are an excellent way to develop upper-body pulling strength, improve shoulder and scapular control, and balance out the pressing movements we commonly perform in the gym and in everyday life.

Not ready for a bodyweight pull-up? The movement is easy to scale. Start with a resistance band for assistance, or use a lat pulldown machine to build the strength needed to progress toward an unassisted pull-up.

As you get stronger, gradually reduce the assistance and work toward controlling your full bodyweight through the entire range of motion.

Train the movement at the level that’s right for you, then progress from there.

Landmine Reverse Lunge + Press

Combining a reverse lunge with a press from the bottom position challenges more than just lower-body strength.

Holding the lunge while pressing forces you to maintain lower-body position while your upper body produces force—adding trunk stability, balance and coordination to the movement.

It’s a great way to train single-leg strength and upper-body pressing together without turning the exercise into two separate movements.

Key focus: Get into a strong lunge position, stay controlled at the bottom, press without shifting or losing position, then drive through the front leg to stand.

Congrats to M2 Trainer Ella on her summit of Mt. St. Helens last weekend! Hard work and dedication pay off.

Three simple shoulder mobility drills I like to incorporate into my training:

1️⃣ Dowel Shoulder Floss
Works the shoulder through multiple planes of motion while challenging controlled rotation and mobility.

2️⃣ Dowel Kayak Rotation
Adds a rotational component, combining shoulder mobility with movement through the upper back/thoracic spine.

3️⃣ Shoulder Dislocates
A classic drill for taking the shoulders through a large, controlled range of motion. Adjust your hand width based on your available mobility—don’t force the range.

🚵 Why I like these for mountain biking:
We spend a lot of time on the bike with our arms forward, shoulders loaded and upper body relatively fixed. Maintaining good shoulder and thoracic mobility can help us comfortably move around the bike, absorb impacts and find better positions through technical terrain.

But these aren’t just MTB drills.

For the general population, they’re a simple way to work on shoulder mobility and movement variability—especially for people who spend a lot of the day sitting, driving or working at a computer.

The goal isn’t to force more range. Move slowly, stay controlled and work within the range your shoulders comfortably give you.

Mobility you can actually use > forcing flexibility.

One exercise…a lot of benefits.

The banded overhead squat challenges your shoulders, core and lower body to stay stable while moving through a full squat.

For mountain bikers, this helps improve:
• Shoulder stability
• Thoracic mobility
• Core stiffness
• Hip, knee and ankle control
• Overall body awareness under load

Those same benefits also make it a fantastic exercise for my general population clients looking to move better, stay healthier and build full-body strength.

Start light, move with control, and focus on quality over weight.

Mountain biking isn’t just about having strong legs. If your shoulders and upper back fatigue before the bottom of the descent, your control and confidence suffer.

This drill strengthens the stabilizers that help keep you composed through rock gardens, braking bumps, and technical terrain while reinforcing a strong attack position.

How to perform it:
• Hands shoulder/handlebar width
• Lower into your attack position
• Hold for 3–5 seconds (or until you begin to shake)
• Return to the start under control
• Repeat for quality reps

This isn’t just for mountain bikers. It’s an excellent exercise for improving shoulder health, posture, and upper-body endurance for anyone.

After a few years of hard riding and a couple race seasons it was time for a refresh on my RAAW Mountain Bikes Madonna V3. Finally on matching suspension in thanks to Sporthaus - Ski - Bike - Tennis - Pickleball and a full refresh on pivots and brakes from Justin R. Thanks to VisionVelo for the only piece of carbon on my bike. That fender is fire!
