Discover Yoga

Discover Yoga A space where each student is given an opportunity to explore yoga and its practices in a way that is supportive and adaptable to their particular needs.

Serving Redmond's community since 1997. Discover Yoga, Discover Yourself
Discover Yoga was established in 1997 in the Stonehouse bookstore in Redmond. Since its inception, the teachers and staff have been committed to serving our students through instruction of yoga postures, breathing and meditation techniques as well as the history and philosophy of Yoga. In the tradition of Sri Krishnamacharya,

known as Viniyoga, our instructors have learned to adapt each class to the needs of the students. Viniyoga’s focus on individualised teaching, modifications and adaptations of the poses, and attention to breath provide the opportunity to begin at any level and deepen your practice with each class you attend. Yoga For Every Body
At Discover Yoga we firmly believe that yoga is for Every Body. There are no bodies that aren’t right for yoga, everyone can benefit from the healing, growth and deeper peace that a yoga practice can provide. As well as building strength, flexibility and overall good health in the physical body, yoga also works on the mental, emotional and personality levels to bring greater ease, joy and freedom to your life. The limitations of your physical body should never be a barrier to the health boosting benefits of practicing yoga. You won’t find any one-size-fits-all, cookie-cutter yoga at DY. Viniyoga is all about adapting all of the postures and techniques to the individual student. Each class at our studio is different and reflects the needs of the students practicing in class that day. Our instructors are all trained to adapt and modify the poses to help make them accessible in some form to every student. Some of our students even practice all or part of their class seated in a chair! We can assure you that no matter your age, shape, size, stage of life or level of ability you’ll be able to find classes at our studio that you’ll enjoy and feel comfortable and successful in. What are you waiting for? Our caring, knowledgeable instructors will make you feel right at home, answer your questions and help you find a way to move that is safe and appropriate for your body. New Students can try 2 classes for just $20

Step onto the mat and into myth. In this class, we’ll explore the stories behind our favorite yoga poses, beginning with an introduction to the Hindu pantheon—the gods and goddesses who walk beside us in yogic lore. We’ll trace the threads that connect Hindu mythology with other cultural pantheons, including Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Norse, and Native American traditions. As each story unfolds, we’ll move into the poses, allowing myth, movement, and meaning to merge.

A sadhana is a daily, consistent spiritual practice that leads the practitioner closer to Truth. Our sadhana practice that we will take on together will be 21 days of meditation with a relevant mantra (potent phrase repeated silently) using a mala (string of beads used primarily for counting). The first class will include guidance on setting up for meditation, practicing using a mala, and utilizing mantra in meditation. We will then move into the meditation practice together.

After the first session together, we will meet once a week for 21 days. These sessions will include a check in, centering and focusing pranayama (breathwork), and our meditation together. In between our group sessions, it is expected that you will take on the meditation on your own each day as a consistent, daily practice to get the full benefit from the sadhana.

This series will be a wonderful blend of work on your own and with your fellow practitioners in our group meditations – both very powerful in their own way. It will lay the foundation for you to possibly take on other sadhana practices as you feel appropriate.

If you know you will not be able to attend all sessions, please do not let that be a barrier to joining the group and sign up so you can join us when you can. It will be important to have a 108-bead-mala of your own before the first session. Please do not hesitate to contact Kalyani at [email protected] if you need help figuring out what to get and where to look!
