Ran my first mile of the year this evening... Correction. My first run/walk because I’d slow down to a power walk for 1 minute at about every quarter mile 😭I feel both disappointed and accomplished. Disappointed because 1) Clearly I’m deconditioned [Yes, I know I just had a baby 8 weeks ago, but I’m generally hard on myself lol 🤷🏽♀️]. 2) I was hoping to be able to sustain running the entire mile. 3) It was only a mile, and I had to really push myself just to complete it. 4)My hips were really tight, and I know it was affecting how I run... need to incorporate focused hip and glute strengthening every opportunity I can to address this... I felt accomplished because 1) I sucked it up and completed the goal despite that little voice in between my ears reminding me of how tired I was and that I could just stop and try again another day. 2)I did it after my class. I know that affected my performance on this run, but it was the only time I could do it in good conscience knowing that Mike was at home with the baby and no milk pumped.😫 3) A 10’21” mile after over a year since my last run, slowing to walk 3 times for about a minute each, a baby, and having taught a class where I gave my all right before...Not too bad when considering all of that... So, although the disappointments slightly outweigh the feelings of accomplishment, I’m okay with this. Because I know that my body is still healing from pushing out a baby.. I know I need to start slow anyway. And I know with consistency, I am going to achieve all of the goals I’ve set for this year, and I will be stronger to set even more awesome goals next year, Lord willing! Will keep tracking the runs to assess improvements as I work up to my intended 1/2 marathon run training plan! What fitness goals are you working toward achieving?
