This FG ‘Fan Kick’ and Back Extension Roll are such a fun dynamic Acro Chair Trick Combination!

Swipe to see my set up.

The Funny Grip system used in this combo is the very same as the recent ‘Chair Vaulter’ that was posted Tuesday, August 26th.

And in the Back Extension Roll to a shoulder stand enters via the same bridge, goes a step further in the roll where the Funny Grip lengthens into Hook Arm! The grip change is automatic!

In other news, stay tuned for a workshop opportunity where you get to pick from the posted tricks from Summer 2026 that you would like to learn!

Next month marks the 10-year anniversary of creating the Chair Janiero, aka ‘Chairniero’. Now it is time to give this beloved chair shape adapted from pole an upgrade including a new shape!

Swipe to see alternate angle with my set up and entry for this Flag Grip Press. You can really see how I first lengthen and bring my ‘Yielded Elbow’ into place for Flag Grip!

And swipe to see the original Chairniero from September 2016!

Due disproportionate amount of weight moving to rest on the one side of the chair for the Chairniero, and especially, in the second shape with stacked hips and horizontal legs, counterbalance is crucial and is created by squeezing my right arm into the chair at an 90-degree angle.

To release my right arm in the first shape, I first open my elbow and then carefully lengthen it down the rear leg of the chair. (I am able to hold it only for a couple of seconds!) I highly suggest that your dual arm Chairniero is solid before attempting the single arm. The counterbalance is more important! In my opinion, this Chairniero shape is cool whether it is done with one or two hands!

Although I release my arm for the finished Chairniero shape, I afterwards must reestablish counterbalance by placing it back into position and squeeze it into the chair again for the 2nd shape!

I love how this grip system is very much like our Flag Grip in pole, especially for the press entry!

Now to name the second shape! Any ideas?

Swipe to see the Drop Split variation and the base trick with the full set up for this dynamic Funny Grip Acro Chair Trick!

The goal is to explode off the floor from a bridge shape with your support to clear the top of the chair - just like a traditional pole vaulter into a kip and/or drop split.

The Funny Grip system used keeps the chair stable to perform this super dynamic trick!

I am happy to report that further experimentation with this grip system proved fruitful! Swipe to see the aerial deadlift and the original acro variations (the complete set)!

Because the Acro attempt of this entry/trick was successful (August 11th post), I knew that its aerial counterparts, including, an aerial deadlift, had excellent probability!

This result of this grip is reminiscent of what is called “Princess Grip”. At the start you are somewhat tangled/trapped until you reach verticality and suddenly realize you are unraveled and linear in a traditional Twisted Grip Handspring!

And in this case when I become unraveled, I am in a traditional True Grip Handspring!

The aerial deadlift of this Reverse True Grip entry was comboized with a pair of ‘Giants’/‘Clocks’ - most definitely one of my favorite maneuvers!

I comboized this back-facing Reverse True Grip from the floor (to aerial) with the same shape as August 11th. Unlike the Acro variation, I needed to reestablish the original shoulder connection that is lost as height is gained.

Yay! The set for this True Grip Reverse Entry is complete with its original Acro (included from August 11th post), Floor to Aerial, and Aerial options!

A full set always makes sense and just feels right!

Further exploration with this shoulder position birthed this split! Swipe to see my set up for the press entry!

I am still so grateful to Gallela for the inspiration behind this shoulder placement. I love the conditioning aspect, as well as, the bountiful shapes that are still yet to be discovered!

I was able to press up by placing my grip system in a staggered manner at each apex of the chair (where the chair legs from an “A”) - almost like a set of handles! What typically functions as my support hand was place at the rear of the apex while my dominant hand was placed at the front of the apex. Each arm forms a 90-degree angle to the chair with both index fingers pointing downward (copied from August 13th post).

As mentioned in my first post regarding the shoulder position:placement with my anterior deltoids at the top of the chair back is super comfy - including with the added weight of my leg to form this split!

Try this 2-part block challenge to condition and prepare for “Clocks”, an Acro Pole Combo!

The block helps to create and maintain a crucial component for this combo!

The goal here is to create and use active compression whereby you dynamically use your hip flexors and lower abdominals to pull your legs and torso tightly together. It closes the space between your thighs and chest using muscular strength rather than just passive flexibility, allowing you to float your hips over your hands.

To float?! Yes! And therefore, this fun drill will help in all your presses and deadlift goals in pole! Plus, it’s just fun!

There are two progressions. The first is to ensure that you can complete the Twisted Grip portion of this combo without ever losing active compression.

The second progression is to maintain active compression as you transition your grip into True Grip for the second portion of this Acro combo.

To make this grip transition you must be able to shift your weight to your support hand so you can relocate your dominant grip’s thumb in a forward position and internally rotate its shoulder to be able to pull down into True Grip.

The first video shows my set up where I make a “box” at the pole base ensuring:
1. My support hand is under my shoulder
2. My support arm can block and “bulldog”. If this arm can “bulldog”, you will be able to rotate the heel of the hand to accommodate the pike roll.
3. My legs are in turnout able to squeeze the block with my knees ensuring that my inner thighs are working.
4. Releve and lean slightly forward to lift your feet off the floor with control!
