Starting in October, classes will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Anderson Grange on Saturdays.

The first hour will be kickboxing with Kung Fu techniques injected in the training. The second hour will be Traditional Chinese Kung Fu with real world applications being taught.

I teach traditional Chinese Kung Fu. Regardless of style or martial system, there is a difference between traditional and contemporary. Contemporary martial arts do not teach fighting/ application. Point fighting and controlled sparring I consider contemporary and not real.

Traditional martial arts teach application to forms. Not just saying what the application is but showing you how to use the technique. I will have students try the applications I demonstrate. Also, hard sparring is a part of traditional training. However, if you are rushed into hard sparring without proper gear and preparatory training you will get hurt. As a teacher I do not rush people into hard sparring. It is a gradual build up in comfort. If you have never been punched in the face and someone hits you on the street in the nose, your eyes will water and all the time spent getting your fancy belts will be a waste because you will not see out your watery eyes.

I have found the Traditional Chinese Kung Fu community to be very inclusive. Different schools that teach different styles of Kung Fu get together and put on demonstrations without drama. The Traditional Chinese Kung Fu community has been very welcoming to me. Come and join classes to get a chance to experience events that you would not otherwise.

Traditional Chinese Kung Fu weapons training may seem pointless. However, there are two important reasons to practice traditional weapons. The first is there are hidden hand techniques. The second is if you train with heavy traditional weapons, you will not need to lift weights.
