Clint and Rich feel there’s something that needs to be said about the current state of travel baseball.
At 3up 3down DeLucia Baseball Academy we DEVELOP players. We don’t build our program by actively recruiting players from other organizations. We build it by investing in the players and families who choose to be part of OUR organization.
Recently, several “nationally ranked” travel organizations have been actively reaching out to and recruiting players from within our program.
That’s their choice. I guess we should be flattered. They can’t develop from within their “National” level programs so they try to poach players from a completely different state.
But understand the difference in philosophy.
We believe if you want to build a great baseball organization, you develop your own players. You coach them. You challenge them. You invest in them. You help them improve year after year, and when the time comes, you help them find opportunities to continue playing at the next level.
We develop and place every single player that graduates out of our program. That is something we are extremely proud of.
We don’t need to recruit from somebody else’s roster to validate what we’re building. Our players, our development, our college placements, and our results speak for themselves.
Travel baseball should be about more than collecting talent. It should be about CREATING IT.
Could we go out and recruit some of the most talented players in the area, throw them in our jersey. Call ourselves a “National Team”. Go win a few meaningless tournaments? Absolutely.
But what does that actually accomplish?
These kids don’t practice together. They barely know each other’s names. There’s no development, no culture, no camaraderie, no process. Just a collection of talented players wearing the same uniform for a weekend.
And the best part? When one of those players commits to a college, these “National Showcase Elite Prime” programs are the first ones posting the commitment and taking credit like they played some meaningful role in that player’s development or recruitment.
News flash: They didn’t.
There’s a big difference between recruiting talent and developing it. We know which side of that line we stand on.
Our commitment remains exactly where it has always been — with the players and families who wear 3Up 3Down proudly across their chest.
We’ll keep developing.
We’ll keep preparing.
We’ll keep placing players at the next level.
Thank you,
3Up 3Down DeLucia Academy
