Bates College Equestrian

Bates College Equestrian The official page of the Bates College Equestrian Team The Bates Equestrian Team is a club sport open to anyone who is interested in riding or learning to ride.

There is no experience necessary and we encourage anyone who thinks they might enjoy being a part of the team to come and give it a try. Student founded in 1995, the Bates Equestrian Team competes in traditional hunt seat with the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) in Zone 1 Region 2. We compete against other schools such as UVM, Middlebury, UNH, Dartmouth, Colby-Sawyer, Bowdoin, Endico

tt and Mt. Ida College. The team practices year round and competes in intercollegiate horse shows in the fall and spring. In accordance with the IHSA mission, the intercollegiate program attempts to eliminate the expenses of students owning horses and allow more students to compete. Students ride horses that are provided by the host college and chosen by drawing lots. The use of personal tack is not allowed and schooling is not permitted. The theory behind this structure is to equalize the variables of the competition and test the horsemanship of the contestants. There are classes available for all abilities ranging from walk/trot classes to Open Division for more experienced riders, so all members are encouraged to show with the team.

The Equestrian Team has had an amazing year with moving to a new barn and growing our team. We had the opportunity to complete in IHSA again for the first time since fall 2019, sending 1 rider to regionals as well as zones. Every bit counts in helping out club continue to run as well as making it accessible to more people.

Bates Equestrian Team had an awesome fall season, making a return to the IHSA show ring after 2+ years.
We had 4 riders show this fall:
Annie Kinnally: Limit Fences and Flat
Natalie Titus: Limit Fences and Flat
Hannah Braslau: Novice Flat
Isabelle Mueller: Pre-Novice Flat

At our show this past Saturday hosted by Colby-Sawyer and Northeastern, Natalie Titus placed 3rd over fences and 5th on the Flat. Hannah Braslau placed 1st on the flat and qualified for regionals.

Thank you to everyone who joined the team this fall as we have had a great group of riders taking lessons and cannot wait for the spring season!!

Great rides at regionals today! Can't wait for next season, but we will miss Zoe Moss and Caroline Best
