This is kind of a long post but it’s been a long time since the last one😂. This is the first time these girls have played together as our full shock team since last fall (we were still missing Amaya this weekend but Brooklyn Love helped us out) and it did show during pool play. We had 3 close, tough losses in pool play with 2 of them being the 2 finalists playing in the gold bracket. The rust was there and we seemed to be playing in slow motion. Don’t get me wrong, we played well against some solid teams, we beat ourselves. After a run of a couple days of fun and team bonding we had a great talk before game 1 of bracket play today and the coaches and players responded the way we knew we could. Great pitching by both Lily and Sofia. The 2 of them carried us through 6 games over the weekend. Our hitting finally woke up with Brooklyn leading the way with 2 monster HR’s and multiple, multiple base hits. Just a beast this weekend. Maya T’s bat woke up when we most needed, knocking a 2 run HR in the 5th inning of the championship game while also picking off 3 cyclone girls trying to steal 2nd from behind the plate. Solid, timely hits all weekend by Veronica, Sami, Charlie and Hailey. Big Mac with stellar defense all weekend and in the championship game, making 2 incredible catches along with a couple great bunts through bracket play. Aly stepped up this weekend and took control behind the plate and also having big hits in big moments. Abby found a second gear today. Attacking ground balls at SS and making great throws to 1 and great tags at 2nd assisting Maya on the pick offs. Alana stepped up in the championship game playing a solid 1st base and getting aggressive at the plate.
Silver brackets are not our goal this season. We know we can and we will compete for golds all year. In this case I’ll take it! It’s acceptable and was a great tune up for us going forward. Next weekend we are In Mequon at the Bigler’s futures Fastpitch tournament. Pool play starts Saturday, first game is at 11am @ River Barn park.
