Children are moving clubs more than ever, but what are they actually chasing?
There’s a growing pattern in youth football.
• Move clubs.
• Find something better.
• Look for the next opportunity.
Sometimes it’s about development, but often it’s about chasing outcomes.
• More wins.
• Better team.
• Higher league.
• Stronger players around them.
It feels like progress, but is it? For who?
Development doesn’t follow a straight line and it definitely doesn’t guarantee itself just because the badge changes.
A better environment isn’t always louder, faster, or more successful.
Sometimes it’s quieter.
• Consistent coaching.
• Fair treatment.
• A place where a child feels safe to try, fail, and improve.
That’s harder to measure and often gets overlooked.
The risk isn’t moving clubs, it's moving for the wrong reasons. Leaving a place where a child is:
• Enjoying it.
• Learning.
• Being treated well.
For something that looks better on the outside but doesn’t actually give them what they need, because the “next best thing” isn’t always somewhere else.
Sometimes it’s already in front of you.
