KING OF 1MILE IN CHILE
Dear KO1M and KO2M friends,
I am a firm proponent that shooters should travel and shoot in other countries. Not only does it give you unforgettable experiences and new shooting friends, it also allows you to interact with how other countries shoot and share experiences and knowledge. It enriches both parties.
Shooting ELR in many countries is not easy. Legislation and lack of ranges makes it complex, nearly impossible in some countries.
A group of motivated shooters like Felipe Jara and Alex Ahuile are working hard to give the Chilean ELR shooters the chance to shoot KING of 1 MILE in their country. Felipe, Alex and Ricardo Araño have been shooting internationally and doing well.
For the last 4 years they have been running a super nice KING OF 1 MILE competition, gathering all those that have built 1 mile rifles and also running the COPA KING giving the opportunity to those with Short Action rifles to compete in ELR with their rifles too.
The 2026 edition was held in Osorno in an incredibly beautiful area of the Osorno Lake and volcano on the Poligono Altamira. The range has targets up to 2000 yards approximately. The area is known for crazy strong winds and is full or wind turbines to prove it.
The competition started with the COPA KING for short action rifles with targets at CB 605Y, T1 -509, T2-780, T3 1028 and T4 1250 yards
There was some nice shooting with the small rifles and some shooters nearly cleared it. Ricardo Araño with me as spotter placed first, Jose Manuel Ramirez second and Ricardo Correa third.
The next day the KING OF 1 MILE started with some rain and strong winds but of the worst kind as sometime there were face winds and then shifted to tail. Not easy.
The KING OF 1 MILE had targets at CB-886y, T1-780y, T2-1020y, T3-1310y, T4-1544y, T5-1602y, T6-1810y and T7-2057 yards. All targets were around 1.5 to 1.9 MOA side aprox.
Its clear that international experience is paramount and the Chilean team that travels internationally did very well. So bad that a rifle tech issue with Felipe Jara´s rifle precluded him to shoot the finals. Jose Ignaicio Ramirez and his father as a team shoot awesome and came second . I really like to see young teen shooters shoot and do well and this team wants to start shooting internationally so I am sure we will see them in the US soon.
Personally, I shot Ricardo Araño second rifle loaned to me by him, thanks Ricardo for the rifle and your spotting. The ALAMO rifle shot super good, as they always do, and I was able to get to the top position. He was not so lucky with his rifle #1, and me as his spotter, and could not get it going at all.
Everyday we got a breakfast in a big tent, that was open for all shooters all time for socializing and the organization also offered Chilean asado for lunch and the last day a super Salmon in the grill, the specialty of the Osorno lake. This is the kind of hospitality and friendly shooting you get at the KING OF 1 MILE IN CHILE.
This is a must be if you like travelling, Chile is a friendly location, and Felipe and Alex will definitely help you out with all planning. Don’t hesitate to come next 2027.
