Student of the Horse® philosophy is some of the most current research and understanding of, behavior and comunication, for all disciplines, performance and education. About the Clinicians of Student of the Horse® Horsemanship
Jack and Rich Mervin became accomplished horsemen by the age of 14 after training under their father Dick Mervin and Grandpa George Silver. In the early eighties they began t
o travel all over the western states from Salt Lake City to northern Idaho training horses. Meeting up to take on large ranch tasks like the weekend in Hailey Idaho, which consisted of starting 18 head of ranch raised horses ranging from ages 2-6. After a short career as guides in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness the twins joined the military and trained horses on the side. Rich worked in the Memphis TN area training for Shelby farms as head wrangler and trainer. Rich went straight back into horses once he left the military. For many years Jack trained part time while earning his Journeyman electrician license. Rich trained out of the southern Idaho area then in 1999 moved to southern California where he gave riding lessons in Orange County and rode dressage, hunters and jumpers. While learning the language of these different disciplines, Rich was also working toward his Bachelors Degree in Equine Science at Cal Poly Pomona. Jack was still working horses on the side when he settled in Coeur d’Alene Idaho in 1995. In 2000 Jack realized that his dream of being a horseman was being held up by his career as an electrician. Jack loaded up and moved to California to attend college and train horses with his brother Rich, who was the practical lab instructor for the Equine Unit at Mount San Antonio College. Working with Rich, Jack learned how much he had been missing in his quest for true horsemanship by just working at it part time. Rich's was working on the training philosophy titled Student of the Horse® Horsemanship developing the system of Quiet Consistency™ and the Behavioral Communication model™. The strength (conditioning), feel, timing and balance that was developed while learning and sharing this message is some of what we would like to present to you. It takes a lifetime of learning to gain true knowledge and wisdom, come share what the Student of the Horse® Horsemanship has to offer.
