Shortly after crashing the white #99 he bought this car, out of St. Joseph, MI. It was a metallic medium blue with a wide white stripe down the center. This car was painted maroon in recognition of his alma mater Virginia Tech. He would go on to race this car through the 1984 season. He raced Grattan, Waterford Hills, Blackhawk Farms, Road America, IRP, Mid-Ohio, and Nelson Ledges with this car. I don't think he ever consciously decided to stop racing but life got in the way and the car sat for years. One of his greatest accomplishments in racing was a 3rd place in Regional, Central Division competition. The plaque still hangs on the wall to the left side of his desk, right where he hung it over 20 yrs ago.

The wrecked #99 sat covered on a trailer for several years. Dad planned to make a street car out of it, someday. Time passed and little by little he repaired the bonnet and tub. In autumn 2007 (approx. 30 yrs after the wreck) the car was a completely repaired tub on jackstands. After learning of the 50th AH Sprite Jubilee being held in May of 2008, he announced to Mom, we are going to this Jubilee and will drive the Bugeye. I'll be darn, he did it too. The 1st time he drove the car was going from Aurora, IL to Carlisle, PA. They made it there and back with only minor issues that he was able to fix along the side of the road. The picture shows #99 as transformed to the little red gem that he drove all over the midwest most often seen at the race track with me.
