Friday night was another frustrating one for the 24M, but racing has a way of testing you before it rewards you.
Hot laps started with the car breaking up badly. We got off the track quickly, added fuel, and were able to jump back out at the tail end of the second group. Just like that, the issue disappeared and we thought we had it figured out.
Then came the heat race.
Starting on the pole, the car died in staging and wouldn’t refire. We got push-started, but once it fired the engine fell flat on its face. Instead of racing, we found ourselves spectating from the infield…again this season. It’s a great view, but it’s definitely not where we want to be.
Before the feature, we went to work. We found the ignition switch clip on the starter had worked loose and fallen off. We tightened the terminal and secured everything with electrical tape. The car still wouldn’t stay running, so we swapped the ignition module in the distributor and it fired back up.
Starting from the tail of the feature, the engine was still breaking up under load in the middle of the corners. We made the decision to run one lap and pull off while we could still diagnose the problem instead of risking more damage.
This week, we’re throwing everything we’ve got at it. Every wire, every connection, every component is getting checked. We’re determined to find the root cause and put this electrical gremlin behind us.
The one thing we’re never short on is determination. As a family, we’ve always solved the tough problems together. Our notebook has grown from years of fixing issues just like this, and now it’s time to cross the t’s, dot the i’s, and get this race car back where it belongs.
We can’t thank our fans, sponsors, friends, and family enough for sticking behind us through the highs and the lows. Your support means everything, and we promise we’ll keep digging until the 24M is back doing what it was built to do.
Sometimes racing is about trophies. Sometimes it’s about perseverance.
We’ll be back.
