To the players, past players, parents, and fans of Cordova High School’s girls’ soccer program:
After much reflection with my wife and consideration to my new grandson, I find with much melancholy, I must announce I will not be returning to the program next year. As of today, I have communicated with the leadership at Cordova High School and informed them I will not be returning. Over the past seven years, there were many great accomplishments our program attained with our players moving onto university, the military, careers and starting families. I was proud of how our program developed over the past seven years and was always excited to see past players return.
I will always appreciate the opportunity that I was able to spend at CHS. We have always been told that to coach, you have a great opportunity to mold the next generation. That as a coach, you impart life lessons on and off the field. I would like to be clear; I believe I learned more from these young ladies about life, commitment, sportsmanship, resilience, respect, hard work, humility, and leadership than I may have imparted to them.
I would like to think my position as coach taught me how to motivate a team and challenged the players to grow as athletes and young women, but no matter how bad a day I may have been having, just to hear the players say, “Hi coach, how was your day.” will be what I miss the most.
I wish the current and past players all the best. And to those yet to come, may your experience at Cordova be as wonderful as mine.
Thank you to the staff and leadership at Cordova High School for the great support over the years and the confidence you placed in allowing me the great honor of temporarily being the steward of the girls’ soccer program.
Coach Jay Ramey
