Holly Rowe asked Jocelyn Aloโs dad what she did to become an elite hitter. Her dadโs response:
โShe hit 1,000 balls a day. We would go hit a couple buckets, collect balls & do it again. She wanted to keep hitting so thatโs what we did.โ
What weโre seeing is a result of consistent, hard work, in silence for YEARS before anyone knew her name. Her career is a direct result of her hard work & development.
Little ballers, keep working hard. Even when itโs tough. Even when no one knows your name. Whether youโre on a good or bad team.
Hitters: Video your swing. Look at other swings of elite hitters. Know what your swing is supposed to look like & work towards that. BBUUNNTT!!!! (J. Alo can lay down the bunt for her team when she needs to ๐)
Pitchers: You donโt have to throw 70mph to be effective. Command each pitch & compete. Master the fastball & change up FIRST, then movement pitches.
Defenders: Learn as many positions as you can. Play catch every day. Long toss. Learn how to go get any ball on the ground & in the air. Donโt be afraid to go get balls that arenโt hit directly to you!
Base runners: Study situations. Know your speed. Learn how to run correctly. Take risks. SLIDE!
Teammates on the bench: MAKE YOURSELF USEFUL! Youโre not just a warm body. Study the game. Encourage your teammates. Play catch in between innings. Learn cheers. Create new ones. Set the energy for your teammates. Know your teammates bags. Call out bunts & steals. Use this time to increase your softball IQ until itโs your time to step on the field.
Have fun little ballers. Play hard. Enjoy the process. Leave it all on the field, every game. You wonโt regret it.
