We learned of the passing of Charles "Blue Eyes" Williams last week and wanted to extend our deepest condolences to the Williams family. Charles was a dedicated fan that attended every home game our inaugural season in 2011. He was one of our first and biggest supporters, and his presence will truly be missed. "Charles always had a word of encouragement, and words of wisdom for me. He believed in me and my dream well before it took off, and even after it came down. His vote of confidence was much needed, and his undying positive outlook was contagious. I will always remember those big blue eyes on the sideline of every game." - Legends CEO Derek Polley
Mr. Williams had many reasons to attend each game. His son, Fayid Williams, played for the Lynchburg Legends. Fayid scored the first basket in Lynchburg Legend history, and was a valuable asset each year for the organization. Another son, Jamal Williams, wrote the theme song for the Legends in 2011 and 2012. His lyrical genius provided the soundtrack to all of our home games. The eldest son, Hanif Williams, was known as the voice of the Legends. Hanif served as the live on-air broadcast TV announcer, and was a definite fan favorite with his famous tag line, "Are you serious?" Mr. Williams wife and his daughter Sakina could always be seen and heard loud and clear in the front row. They would sit in the same seat every game, and we grew accustomed to seeing them there. The entire Williams family were a cornerstone to the success of this organization, and all of their support is deeply and genuinely appreciated. The legacy Mr. Williams leaves behind speaks volumes about the man that he was, and all the lives that he touched. You will truly be missed. Thank you for all the support and great memories.
