We are playing volleyball in a heated indoor pool in late September, and everybody is invited.

There is no queue for the squat rack at five o'clock.

That is not luck. Cambridge Fitness is a 25+ club, and it changes how the place feels. The floor stays calm through the after-work hours. The equipment is there when you want it. Everybody in the room is an adult who chose to be here.

All four of them are down at the pool, which can only mean one thing.

Fair warning: this one is hard.

Jin is running our first HIIT class Thursday at 6 PM. Short intervals, high effort, and built for people who want to be pushed rather than eased through it.

It is a trial. We are running it once, seeing who turns up and how it goes, and Jin wants to hear what you thought afterwards. If it earns a spot on the schedule it stays.

If you have been finding the class schedule a bit gentle, this is the one.

Every outdoor pool around Brier Creek closed this weekend. Ours did not, and it will not in January either.

Indoor, heated saltwater, and open every day of the year. Lap pool, group exercise pool, hot tub. Nobody here has to think about the season.

This is the month people notice. Somewhere around the second week of September there is a morning where you want to swim and there is nowhere to do it. If that has happened to you before, it does not have to happen again.

Aqua classes run through the week and you are welcome to stand on the deck and watch one before you try it.

Every outdoor pool around Brier Creek closes this weekend. Ours does not, and for the next four days joining costs less than it has all summer.

Through Monday night: no enrollment fee at all, not the $99, not the discounted $49 — nothing. Plus half off your first three months on the year agreement.

That is the whole thing. It ends Monday at close and the September rate goes back to normal on Tuesday.

If you have been waiting for the pools to close somewhere else before sorting this out, this is the weekend.

This was eight o'clock this morning. Ropes, the rower, dumbbells, and a coach on the floor keeping an eye on everybody.

What a photo like this does not show is how ordinary it feels. Nobody is performing. People work at whatever pace they turned up with, which on a Thursday morning is a fairly wide range, and the coach adjusts around that rather than the other way round.

If you have been putting off a group class because you assume everyone else already knows what they are doing, the coach is there precisely so you do not have to.

Class schedule is at the front desk, and you are welcome to stand at the back and watch one before you commit to anything.

Hello Cambridge Crew — a lot of gyms send a bill in January that has nothing to do with January.

We do not. There is no annual fee here and there never has been. Your dues are your dues, and the fitness assessment, the InBody scan and your monthly guest passes are already part of them.

It is not a promotion and there is no month where it ends. It is simply how the membership is built.

If you have been quietly waiting for the catch, that is the honest answer to it.

Hello Cambridge Crew - most outdoor pools close this month. Ours does not, because ours is indoors and heated all year.

That is the honest reason for these four days. The week your pool shuts is the week people stop swimming until May, and we would rather you did not.

Thursday the 4th through Monday the 7th: half price for your first three months on the one-year agreement, and no enrollment fee. Depending on which membership you choose, that is up to $382 saved.

Twenty-five yards, heated saltwater, and nobody has ever had to check the weather first.
