Carolina International CCI and Horse Trial The Carolina International is a world class eventing competition held at the Carolina Horse Park.

The Carolina International Organizing Committee was formed to build a world class eventing competition in the Sandhills of North Carolina. Leveraging local and national expertise and leadership, we will deliver an outstanding weekend of horse sport and entertainment for riders, owners, grooms, spectators, patrons and sponsors alike.

Congratulations to all eight 🇺🇸 U.S. combinations named to the U.S. Nominated Entry for the inaugural FEI Eventing World Championship for U25 Riders!

We're especially proud to see several familiar faces who have competed at the Setters' Run Farm Carolina International CCI and Horse Trial represented among the nominations:

🏅 Jack Curtis & Luska Candy Clover – 4th in the CCI2*-S (2023)
🏅 Olivia Dutton & Jewelent – Competed in the CCI4*-S (2026)
🏅 Meg Pellegrini & Dondante – Competed in the CCI4*-S (2026). Dondante also captured the CCI4*-S title at Carolina International in 2022 with Will Coleman.
🏅 Cassie Sanger & Redfield Fyre – Completed the CCI4*-S (2025) and earned both 1st and 2nd in the CCI2*-S that same year.

It's always exciting to watch riders and horses progress through the levels, and we're honored that Carolina International has been a part of the journey for so many talented combinations.

Congratulations to all the nominated athletes, their owners, grooms, coaches, and support teams. We'll be cheering you on as you represent the United States on the world stage!

We're here for the chaos 👏😆

Ireland's Lee Maher picked up his first career FEI victory on Saturday in the Dechra US Equine CCI1*-S with Home Track Farm's HTF Charming Cooley, so naturally we had to ask his husband, 5* rider Chris Talley, to (attempt to) conduct his interview!

Let's hear from our three-division winner, Tamie Smith, visiting us all the way from California to make her first appearance at the Setters' Run Farm Carolina International since 2022. Tamie took home wins in the CDP Stables CCI4*-S (Lillet 3), the Cordelia Family Foundation CCI3*-S (Spiro P) and the Breezeway Sporthorse and Diagnostic Clinic / Friendship Veterinary Imaging Center CCI2*-S (Solaguayre Cantata).

Tamie also clued us in on a very exciting new horse named Mai Fire (sound familiar?) who's just joined her team.

How does he look?! Boyd Martin swapped his jump saddle and jacket for a cowboy hat and a Western saddle (+ a buckle to keep!) for a quick lesson in the ever-growing sport of Western Dressage. This demo was made even more special as Boyd, the 2025 USEF International Equestrian of the Year, rode Athenian Lady, the 2025 USEF National Horse of the Year and a champion in her own right with her rider, Amanda Delgado of Olympus Equestrian. Athenian Lady is a rescue who was found by Amanda and, despite being told multiple times she was dangerous and unrideable, went on to be a true horse of a lifetime. Athena even has her own Breyer Model Horses!

The Setters’ Run Farm Carolina International and the Carolina Horse Park are deeply saddened to announce that Heathcliff, a 13-year-old Canadian Sport Horse gelding competing in the Novice Rider division, collapsed and died as he and his rider, Angi Bevers, were entering the ring for show jumping on Saturday afternoon (March 21). Angi was uninjured during the incident.

Heathcliff was immediately attended to by a competition veterinarian who was nearby, but unfortunately the horse passed away quickly after collapsing.

The horse will be transported to Rollins Lab in Raleigh, NC, where a necropsy will be performed to determine the full cause of death.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Angi Bevers and her family.

We will resume our coverage of our FEI divisions and Horse Trials on Sunday, out of respect for Angi and those who loved Heathcliff.
