🦌 ONE. MORE. DAY.

Tomorrow morning, it's finally here.

Some of y'all will be in climbers. Some in ladder stands. Some in box stands or ground blinds. Some sitting against a tree. And I'm sure somebody will be out there walking around because apparently sitting still isn't for everybody. 😂

Me?

I'll be excited for every single one of you...

from somewhere with air conditioning. 😂

I love deer season, but early-season bow hunting when it's approximately 147 degrees outside is where I draw the line. Y'all have fun. Send pictures. I'll join you when Mother Nature gets herself under control. 😂

However you hunt tomorrow, take a few minutes tonight to check your gear. Check your stands and straps. Use your safety harness if you're hunting elevated. Let somebody know where you'll be. Know your target and what's beyond it. And don't let opening-day excitement make you careless.

We've spent weeks talking about getting ready for this.

Now there's nothing left to count except...

September 11, 2001 changed our country forever.

For some, it's a memory of exactly where you were and what you were doing when the world seemed to stop. For others, especially some of the younger men and women serving today, it's a piece of history that shaped the military and the country they grew up in.

For so many of us who served, 9/11 became part of our story too. It changed why people raised their right hand, where they were sent, what they experienced, and what they carried home with them.

Today isn't about politics. It's about remembering the 2,977 lives lost that day, the first responders who ran toward danger when everyone else was trying to escape it, the families whose lives changed in an instant, and the generations of service members who answered the call in the years that followed.

Twenty-five years later, the world looks very different.

But today, we remember.

We remember where we were.
We remember those we lost.
We remember those who answered.

Check the cameras again because apparently something might have happened in the last six minutes. 😂

🦌 3 DAYS!

Yes, we know.

Yesterday was supposed to be 4 days.

Apparently our countdown is about as organized as the rest of our opening-week preparations. 😂

We had a whole video ready to go, Facebook and the internet gods had other plans, and after arguing with technology for entirely too long... Day 4 came and went.

So here we are.

THREE. MORE. DAYS. 👀🦌

At this point, the corn is out, cameras are running, stands are checked, shooting lanes are ready, and we're officially close enough to opening day that every trail-cam notification deserves immediate investigation. 😂

The countdown may have missed a day, but deer season sure didn't.

Around here, opening-week preparations are going exactly according to plan.

And by "according to plan," we mean Mike is currently on his knees praying to the Shop-Vac gods.

They did not answer. 😂

Apparently getting ready for deer season AND getting a taxidermy shop up and running involves a surprising amount of negotiating with equipment that has chosen violence.

Anybody else fixing, replacing, rigging, or sweet-talking something that was supposed to "just work" ? 😂

🦌 6 DAYS!

While we're counting down to deer season, a whole bunch of y'all have already been out kicking off hunting season with dove opener this weekend!

Dove hunting isn't really our thing here at G-DET, but we'll take any excuse to see hunters back in the woods and fields doing what they love. 😂

And just because we don't hunt them or work on them doesn't mean we don't want to see them!
