This call is going to Jon Sabati in Hawaii. They are having their N.W.T.F. 30th year banquet on February 21st 2026. I wanted to try and incorporate their chapter theme and name- The Volcano Island Chapter. I carved a small Volcano with Lava Flow on the striker and carved in some Lava Flow on the Base as well.
My son Chris is responsible for designing the call sticker as he does this type of work professionally,I asked him to come up with something that would capture their name and as always he hit it right on the head. The outline of Hawaii, Turkeys and Lava flow from the Volcano. I had the Back of the call engraved with their chapter logo as well.
The Call, Striker and Base are made from Koa Wood which is only native to Hawaii and not easy to obtain. the Call holder is Walnut that I carved into a Whales tail, that part came from a Walnut tree from my inlaws homestead the stood for almost 150 years until straight line winds took her down. I had to add that piece to the set so I always have some ties to Hawaii.

I have a young man that is just getting started, wanting to learn Turkey Hunting, he did not draw a fall tag but wanted to come along and learn. He will be my young hunter for next years Youth hunt. I am blessed to hunt a very game rich Farm that has a lot of birds. I have been watching the flock for several days and found where they were roosting. it was a perfect morning it rained most of the night but quit right at Sunrise> Brandon and I were there right at first light, it took them a while to pitch out of the trees , but when they did they landed 35 yards out and the deal was sealed. Hopefully I can make it happen for Brandon the same way in the spring for the youth Hunt?

Hello All!

These are the calls that I will be donating to the Turkey Call to Action for the auction starting tomorrow.
The Boxcall paddle and end caps are made from a Walnut tree from my In-laws Homestead, the bottom is Maple which came from the same farm and the sides are made from Sassafras. this is made in the short box style.
The other pair is a set of locator calls made from African Rosewood, and Owl and Crow Call.
These will be split for two people both facing tough times right now.
Eric I know personally, I met him years ago at the Wisconsin NWTF Custom Call event where we traded calls and just had a great time. He is a friend, a long standing member of the flock and deserves our thought and prayers to kick Cancers A-- with the biggest stick he can find.

Eric has been giving back to conservation his entire life. Fellow callmakers will be making calls and donating them to -Turkey Calls to action -in the next week for an online auction to benifit Eric. I would suggest following that page and bid on some custom calls!

Eric has stage 4 Cancer in the colon, liver lungs, and lymph nodes.

Eric has been avid outdoorsman & into supporting conservation his entire life. He started hunting turkeys in 1996 in WY but didn't get his first Mn bird until 2000. He's taken a Rio, Eastern, Merriams, Goulds, and still needs a Osceola and an Osselated to complete his world slam.
He joined the NWTF via the Strutting Toms chapter in the mid 90s.
Eric became a turkey call maker in 2000 and his wife entered him in the MN call making competition where he won his first gold metal (Scratch box division) and a silver (call set division). It was there that started his journey into the call maker he is today & all the people he's met since.
He and his family later joined the North Metro Longbeards where he served as a committee member and later President.
A NWTF Diamond Life Sponsor member along with his wife, daughter, father, and brother and is currently a Patron Life Sponsor.
Eric made and gave away over 1,000 Scratch Box Turkey Calls to youth in MN for free at his booth at both the MN Sportsman Show and the Game Fair. Hand burning a Turkey track and the child's name on each one.

He was also on the NWTF MN state board for 7 years. During that time, Eric was asked by the MN state chapter President to take over & rebuild the callmaking competition with the current chairman who was stepping down. He ran the callmaking competition for 2 years, introducing the first mouth call (diaphragm) category.
Using that format, he helped others at the Great Lakes Open and the Ohio Buckeye Championships with their competitions.
Starting with the Scratch Box he challenged himself to grow and learn and went on to compete in several other categories and won in MN, WI, OH, and on the National stage in Nashville.
His first competition in Nashville was in 2012. He took a Silver (Decorated Scratch Box division).
He later won the Jordan award for outstanding Wing Bone call maker Best of Class in 2019 and has gone on to win gold metals in several categories over the past 25 years.
Creation is a passion of his and he feels so blessed to have been able to share his gifts and get better as a maker. Most importantly are the people he's been blessed to meet along the way. He's a humble man who has always answered the call when asked and felt honored to do so.
We can't thank this community enough from the bottom of our hearts

This is one of my old school Boxcalls, about a decade ago these were the ones that I made and had available at the local Gander Mountain store here in Kenosha.
This one may be the last of this run as my good friend and the person who did all of my laser engraving is battling health issues and has stopped engraving for the near future.
This call has a higher pitch to it and will definitely cut threw any wind.

Bottom and Top are Purpleheart, end caps are Zebrawood and the sides are Sassafras.
