Bibisara Assaubayeva Appeals to Kazakhstan's President for Support.

Kazakh Grandmaster Bibisara Assaubayeva has publicly asked President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for help after revealing serious funding challenges despite her success on the world stage.

The Norway Chess Women 2026 champion said she used her own prize money and her parents' support to prepare for the tournament, but has still not been able to pay her seconds and analysts who helped her prepare.

Bibisara highlighted the lack of financial support for chess players in Kazakhstan, noting that bonuses for major chess achievements are far lower than those awarded in Olympic sports. She also revealed that her salary from the Ministry of Sports was reduced in 2025 and that she has never received a salary from the Kazakhstan Chess Federation.

A three-time World Blitz Champion and Kazakhstan's top female player, Bibisara said she faces major tournaments ahead and asked the President: "What should I do, Mr. President?"

Despite these difficulties, the 21-year-old continues to achieve remarkable results. After winning Norway Chess 2026, she is now just 12 rating points away from breaking into the world's top four women players.
