🌿 Wildlife Wednesday

This week we’re taking a little break from featuring an animal to appreciate something equally important to the ecosystems we enjoy from our kayaks—water lilies.

One of the beautiful things about spending time on quieter waterways is seeing lily pads scattered across the surface, sometimes with a beautiful bloom rising above them.

But water lilies are more than just beautiful.

They provide shelter and habitat for insects, fish, frogs, and other small creatures. Their floating leaves can also provide shade beneath the surface, creating little pockets of life that we might never notice from above.

When you’re quietly paddling through an area filled with water lilies, take a moment to look closely.

You may see insects resting on the leaves.

A frog waiting quietly nearby.

Small fish moving beneath the surface.

Nature is happening everywhere—even in places that initially look completely still.

That’s one of the reasons we love being on the water. The slower you move, the more you notice. 💚

You don’t have to be an experienced outdoorsman to enjoy kayaking.

In fact, one of the things we love most is introducing people to the experience for the very first time.

If you’re new to kayaking, choosing the right equipment and location can make all the difference.

That’s why we’re always happy to talk with our customers about what type of experience they’re looking for.

Want something relaxed and easygoing? We can help guide you toward the right equipment.

Want to spend several hours exploring? We can help you think through what will work best for your plans.

Prefer an open, easy-to-enter kayak? A sit-on-top might be right for you.

Enjoy the more traditional feel of kayaking? A sit-in kayak may be your preference.

You don’t need to know everything before you start.

Sometimes the best adventures begin with simply being willing to try something new.

🌿 Mindful Monday

When was the last time you did absolutely nothing?

Not scrolling.

Not cleaning.

Not answering messages.

Not thinking about what you should be doing next.

Just being present.

Being on the water has a wonderful way of making “doing nothing” feel completely acceptable.

You can paddle for a while.

Stop.

Float.

Watch the clouds.

Listen to the birds.

And simply enjoy the moment.

We don’t always have to fill every minute of every day with something productive.

Sometimes slowing down is exactly what we need to come back feeling refreshed.

So here’s your reminder for the week:

You don’t have to earn rest.

You don’t have to justify spending time outside.

And you don’t need a complicated reason to enjoy a beautiful day.

Sometimes it’s enough just to be there. 💙

Looking for a peaceful place to spend a day on the water? One local destination worth adding to your paddling list is the Salmon River Reservoir.

Surrounded by beautiful scenery, this reservoir offers a chance to slow down, explore, and experience nature from a completely different perspective. Whether you’re paddling quietly along the shoreline, taking your time exploring, or simply floating for a moment to enjoy the view, it’s the kind of place that reminds you why getting outside is so good for the soul.

One of our favorite things about kayaking is that you don’t need to have a specific destination in mind. Sometimes the adventure is simply seeing what’s around the next bend, spotting wildlife along the shoreline, or finding a peaceful place to stop and take it all in.

The Salmon River Reservoir is a beautiful reminder that we have incredible places to explore right here in our own region.

Before You Go: Conditions on the water can change, so always check the weather before heading out. Wear a properly fitted life jacket, let someone know your plans, and be mindful of changing wind and water conditions. Make sure the location and conditions are appropriate for your experience level.
