Sometimes we spend all week looking forward to the weekend and then suddenly Saturday arrives—and we have no idea what to do.

Here’s an idea.

💡 Did You Know?

One of the questions people often have when considering paddle boarding is, “Which type of board should I try?”

At Lake Effect Adventures, we offer both hard shell and inflatable paddle boards—and each offers a slightly different experience.

Hard shell boards are rigid and provide a traditional paddle boarding feel on the water.

Inflatable boards are surprisingly sturdy once properly inflated and are a great option for people who want to experience paddle boarding for the first time.

And here’s something important for beginners: you don’t have to immediately stand up!

You can start on your knees, get comfortable with your paddle, and take your time finding your balance. There is no prize for standing up first.

The goal isn’t perfection.

The goal is to get outside, try something new, laugh a little, and enjoy being on the water.

🌿 Mindful Monday

Life can get loud.

There are always things waiting to be done. Calls to return. Laundry. Appointments. Work. Messages. Responsibilities.

Sometimes we get so busy moving through life that we forget to actually stop and experience it.

One of the things we love about being on the water is that it naturally encourages you to slow down.

You notice the sound of the paddle moving through the water.

You notice birds along the shoreline.

You notice the breeze.

You notice how peaceful it feels when there isn’t anywhere else you need to be.

This week, give yourself permission to slow down for a little while.

The chores will still be there later. Your phone will still have notifications.

But summer won’t last forever.

Take the walk. Sit by the water. Watch the sunset. Go for the paddle.

Make time for the things that make you feel like yourself again. 💙

🌅 Some Saturday nights are meant for the water.

As the day begins to wind down, everything changes.

The temperature starts to cool. The water reflects the colors of the sky. Wildlife becomes active along the shoreline. And the busyness of the day starts to disappear.

There’s something special about experiencing one of our beautiful sunsets from a kayak or paddle board. You aren’t watching through a window or rushing past it in the car.

You’re right there in the middle of it.

If you’re sitting around today wondering what to do with the rest of your Saturday, maybe this is your sign to do something spontaneous.

If we have equipment available, we’ll do our best to get you on the water.

Call your best friend.

Take your teenager.

Plan a date with your partner.

Invite your mom or dad.

Get a group together.

🐉 Wildlife Wednesday: The Tiny Hunters Around the Water

We usually think about birds, turtles and fish when we talk about wildlife on the water—but some of the most fascinating creatures are much smaller.

Dragonflies!

Seeing dragonflies darting around while you’re kayaking or paddle boarding isn’t unusual, and they’re doing more than adding a little beauty to the scenery.

Dragonflies are skilled predators that eat other insects, including mosquitoes. And here’s something pretty amazing: they actually spend a significant portion of their lives underwater as aquatic nymphs before emerging as the flying adults we recognize.

So when you see dragonflies around a healthy pond, lake, stream or wetland, you’re looking at an animal whose life is closely connected to the water beneath your kayak.

It’s another reminder of how much is happening around us when we slow down enough to notice.

💡 Did You Know Tuesday?

You don’t have to be an expert—or have perfect balance—to give paddle boarding a try.

One of the biggest things that keeps people from trying a paddle board is thinking, “I’ll never be able to stand up on that!”

Here’s the secret: you don’t have to start standing.

You can begin on your knees, get comfortable with the board and your paddle, and work your way up when you’re ready. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with sitting down and simply enjoying the ride.

Paddle boarding isn’t about looking perfect.

It’s about trying something new, laughing at yourself a little, enjoying the water and maybe surprising yourself with what you can do.

Listen closely the next time you’re on the water.

The paddle entering the water.

Drops falling from the blade.

Birds somewhere along the shoreline.

The breeze.

Maybe a fish breaking the surface.

Being outside gives our minds something we’re often missing: quiet without complete silence.

It’s one of the reasons we love paddling so much. You can be active while still feeling peaceful.

This week, give yourself permission to put the phone down for a while and pay attention to what’s happening around you.

You might be surprised by how much you’ve been missing.
