Meet Miss Becky! 💙

For those of you who are new around here, I wanted to introduce one of the biggest blessings behind Swimming With Sophie.

Miss Becky is a mom of three and “Lottie” to her sweet grandbabies. She works at Roosevelt School, so some of your little ones may already know her from their school days!

This summer, while I focus on teaching our new students, Miss Becky is helping teach maintenance lessons, and I truly could not have asked for a better helping hand. She is patient, kind, encouraging, and loves these kids as if they were her own.

Running a business takes a village, and I am so thankful that Miss Becky is part of ours. If you see her around the pool this summer, be sure to say hello and help me show her some love! ☀️🏊‍♀️💙

“Sorry, I’m running late” isn’t really an option when your workplace is literally your backyard. 😂

The work-from-home life hits a little different when your office is a pool and your coworkers are tiny humans learning life-saving skills. 💙🏊‍♀️

Also, shoutout to my in-laws for the elite Bucky’s pajamas. They may not be regulation swim instructor attire, but they make a strong case for it. 🦫😂

One of the most common questions I get after a child graduates is, “How do I swim with them at home without undoing what they’ve learned?”

Today, I got to spend time with a sweet family teaching them how to practice with their child, what cues to use, and how to encourage a strong swim-float-swim.

Teaching parents is one of my favorite parts of this job because survival skills don’t end when lessons do. ❤️

The goal is confident kids, confident parents, and safer families around the water.

Every float, every swim, every rollover you see here is the result of consistency, courage, and practice. Watching their confidence grow in the water never gets old.

Most water accidents don’t happen with a lifeguard watching every second. They happen during real life—when someone runs inside, answers a phone call, checks on another child, or simply loses sight of the water for a moment.

That’s why we teach children to float independently for extended periods of time.

This float lasted over 2 minutes. Not because we expect a child to be in the water alone for 2 minutes, but because in an emergency, every extra second matters.

A child who can maintain a float has time working in their favor until help arrives. 💙
