MATT GOCHIS INFIELDERS CAMP - January 11, 2025

LIMITED CAMP SIZE

INSTRUCTOR: Matt Gochis - Coach Gochis is the current assistant coach at Riverton High School, responsible for defense and baserunning. Specifically infield play at Riverton.

Gochis played CEU (USU Eastern) for two years as a utility player. He started at 7 different positions while at CEU. After his two years playing, Gochis joined the CEU staff under Coach Madsen. While at CEU Gochis was responsible for the defense, base-running,coaching third base, and recruiting.

Coach Gochis continued his coaching career at Cyprus overseeing the defense and base-running for the program, and recently took over the pitching staff for Cyprus in 2024.

At Cyrpus he helped raise the fielding % from an average of .896% in the first two years to .950% in the final two years. Cyprus also had over 100 stolen bases in each of the 4 years at Cyprus including a historic 166 in 2023, second most all time in Utah history. Multiple individual Cyprus players are in the Utah record books for stolen bases.

Coach Gochis is also a current coach of the Utah Marshall’s, a summer premier collegiate league that hosts some of the top incoming freshman throughout the country. Coach Gochis has been an assistant on Team Royal the last two years coaching first base, handling defense, and base running. This previous summer Coach Gochis was promoted to Outfield Development Coach for the entire Utah Marshall’s program.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CONGRATULATIONS COOPER PILCH (13U) - Cooper plays on the 13u - Smiths team. He has played for Impact since 9u but has been playing baseball since T-ball. Cooper plays outfield & is a pitcher. When Cooper’s not playing baseball you can find him playing basketball, flag football, or video games. He loves his family, but his favorite is the family dog “Beau.”

"There are very few kids who show their passion for the game like Coop does. His desire to excel and perform to the best of his abilities is something that everyone can see. He also cares a great deal about the young men he does it all alongside with, and is often the first to pick someone up when they’re down, or cheer someone on when they do something awesome! There have been multiple times when he’s been on the mound, and had a pitch or two get away from him, and his frustration gets the better of him, and one look at one of his coaches and he knows to get off his high horse and lock in… Its one of my favorite things to watch, because you can always see that moment for him of “ok, its time to go” and he’ll spend the next 3 innings straight carving." - Coach Josh

"Coop! Kid with all the baseball drip! Love when he says he’s ready to go and I see it in his focus and prep. Kind of teammate you want that’s got your back. He’s always positive, giving encouragement and cheering on all his buddies. He’s a friend to all and loves his baseball brothers.
