The new 35K brings the full Red Dirt experience into a single, powerful out-and-back day on the trail.

Expect sandy climbs, longleaf pine forest, creek crossings, and quiet miles deep in Kisatchie. You’ll head out, settle into the rhythm of the trail, and return stronger on the way back.

This is not a “short” option — it’s a legitimate trail challenge and a great introduction to the Red Dirt course and community.

Not sure which Red Dirt distance to choose? Here’s a simple guide.

New to trail running?
Start with the 35K.
You’ll get the full Red Dirt experience — sand, pines, creek crossings, and strong aid support — in a challenging but manageable distance.

First ultra?
The 35K or 33 mile are both great entry points.
If you want a big effort without committing to a full ultra day, go 35K.
If you’re ready to settle in for a longer effort and see what you can do, the 33 mile delivers.

Experienced ultra runner?
The 33 mile is a strong, honest course with ~3,000 ft of gain and plenty of runnable terrain. A great early-season long effort or a chance to race the trails.

Ready for a full day out there?
The 66 mile (100K-ish) is the full Red Dirt experience: two loops, ~6,000 ft of gain, and an 18-hour cutoff. With steady pacing and good fueling, it’s a very doable and rewarding 100K.

Bonus option: New to trails and ultras but have a wild streak inside of you?
The 66 miler is for you (only if you *pinky promise* to train and practice a nutrition strategy during your training)!😉

No matter the distance, you’ll get the same rugged trails, strong aid stations, and grassroots runner-led atmosphere.

Registration is open for the 11th running of Red Dirt Ultra.

Year 11 brings a new distance, a 35K out-and-back, alongside the 33 mile and 66 mile options on the Sandstone and Caroline Dormon trails in Kisatchie National Forest.

Expect sand, longleaf pines, creek crossings, and a rugged but highly runnable day in the forest.

This race is built by ultrarunners for ultrarunners and is known for strong aid, a welcoming community, and a no-nonsense grassroots atmosphere.

This week, a lot of attention is on ’s Made For More Ultra lottery, and we’re cheering on every runner who’s throwing their name in.

A Louisiana Summer Night Ultra returns on August 1: mosquitos, humidity, headlamps, and the kind of challenge that asks you to settle in and keep moving.

Registration opens January 6 at 6:00 AM...intentionally timed as a soft landing for anyone whose lottery luck didn’t go their way.

As the year winds down, we’re already thinking about summer miles and long nights. We’re so grateful to have shared the trail with so many of you this year!
