Isaac is a little anxious because Phoebe keeps going away and his precious Donkeys go away too and he can’t see well enough to figure out how to get out of the gate that Phoebe goes in and out of all the time today

Here's one of my favorite books to recommend to most new clients and all the experts I know.

Blink by Malcolm Gladwell (2005) is about the power of "thin-slicing" — our unconscious mind's ability to make rapid, accurate judgments using very little information.
The central argument is that snap decisions made in the blink of an eye are often just as good (or better) than decisions made after lengthy analysis. Gladwell calls this "rapid cognition" — the kind of thinking that happens behind the scenes, below the surface of conscious awareness.
Key themes include:

The adaptive unconscious — a mental system that processes the world quickly and quietly, separate from our conscious reasoning
Thin-slicing — the ability to find patterns and draw conclusions from very thin slices of experience
When instincts fail — snap judgments can also be corrupted by bias, stress, or misleading information (e.g., why tall men get hired as CEOs, or how police can make fatal split-second errors)
The paradox of choice — sometimes too much information actually clouds our judgment rather than improving it

Gladwell illustrates these ideas with vivid stories: art experts spotting a fake statue instantly, marriage researchers predicting divorce from a brief conversation, and a tennis coach who could tell when a player would double-fault before it happened.
The takeaway is nuanced — rapid judgment is a powerful tool, but we need to understand when to trust it and when our unconscious biases are leading us astray.

When I was young I searched for a boss that could lead me. Then as I built my enterprise, I searched for employees that could lead the company. I finally realized that there are Role players and Growth players and most of my team were fabulous role players not outgoing extraverts who could lead the company.

Once I provided more clear vision for our future, more than "Simply the Best" we became Staffing Partners to America's Finest Employers. We held ourselves accountable and we even fired a few clients who would never get on that list. We also built our teams with specialist leaders.... the Government group had former govt employees and experts at deal with larger employers, the private sector Vice Presidents were creative and innovative and they knew how to "Take the hill" and rock the boat when needed. When they knew I was serious about their future and our vision to be the staffing partners to the finest employers, and when we also invested in technology, then we grew.

We grew faster and eventually grew to over 1100 employees and clients in 33 states. We became one of California's largest employers.

It was a beautiful 27 year ride.

January 11 was Human Traffic Awareness Day. Sadly this behavior still exists. Sometimes the girls are kidnapped and kept against their will. In other cases they are persuaded by "pros" who paint a picture of a better life and then entrap the kids who become physically or psychologically bound or indebted to their captors. If you believe someone is being kept against their will, please reach out to the commission on the status of women in your state. We know its not just girls who are trafficked too.

Clearly government is not helping these people. We must support the non profits and other ngos who work to free and prevent child abuse or worse.

January 11th is Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Trafficking is happening within every state and disproportionally affects women and girls. Awareness is the first step toward prevention, protection, and justice.
