Hello hello! A reminder that not every workout needs to be (or should be!) indoors, and every outdoor workout doesn’t need to be hardcore cardio. Some days your body just needs to move in the sun—rain, snow okay gross but those too—so hydrate up, slap on that sunscreen and GO! I mean look at that goofy grin on my face. It’s so gorgeous out and I feel recharged and ready to tackle the rest of the week.

Good morning and Happy BURN Eve, you strong and capable people!

Tomorrow’s class will be going back to basics and focusing on two main muscle groups: deltoids and glutes. We will focus on correct form and tips to maximize your effort in class!

Bring plenty of water and a towel because tomorrow is going to be HOT.

Class starts right at noon. See you then!

Don’t forget to just breathe every once in awhile and also come BURN with me tomorrow at noon to get your weekend started K BYE)

The loooooooong version:

You guys. I stepped outside with my dog and a cup of tea post-workout and post-planning for tomorrow’s class fully expecting to speed the pup up in his walkthrough of the property so I could get back inside and DO ALL THE THINGS because that’s what we do right? We are busy creatures, us humans.

But then Pupperooni plopped down in the (hopefully sprouting soon) clover bed and it’s quiet and peaceful and I mean look at that view…so I sat down and just soaked in the moment. Within literally 30 seconds, I heard something walking through my backyard and turned around to a deer passing through.

FIRST, I panicked because remember pup is chillin in the non-existent clover, but then I remembered he’s a Stately Elder Gentlepup and chasing deer is like, no. absolutely not. So I relaxed and just…appreciated. The deer passed through and man it was just super great.

We gotta do that, you guys. Take the peaceful moments when and where you can. It is GOOD for your mental health to let your brain take a break and hey you don’t need to take a nap or like, do nothing for half a day; just…take five minutes to breathe.

Every BURN class ends with a good cooldown of course, but also Savasana, or as I like to call it, Yoga Nap.

During this time, I invite my clients to find a comfortable position, close their eyes, and clear their minds while the energy they created during the workout soaks in. It’s a good way to thank your body for everything you just made it do.

Tomorrow’s class is on paper and ready to go!

It’s no secret I love using equipment during class to ramp up the intensity. Bands are a great addition to any workout for adding resistance; but they also provide tactile feedback for those who prefer to physically push or pull.

Try this: stand upright and keeping your feet flexed, lift one knee up at a time. Will this get your blood flowing? Absolutely! BUT, add a band and you will instantly feel your quads and core firing to pull that band up. You can see this in action in my first-ever video!

My clients know my mantra by heart:

"Abs in, shoulders down, chest proud".

This is not my military past creeping out, although I have been told I teach like a drill instructor (I DON'T. I'm very friendly. I swear!) I don't want identical peeps standing in line for inspection. Nope! I'm talking about my favorite thing:

Core, you guys. My classes are full--FULL--of squats, but regulars know my focus is and always will be about core strength. EVERYTHING we do involves our core.

Don't believe me? Try breathing without engaging your core (but not for too long! I want you to come to class!)

Core strength informs nearly every movement of our bodies. Reach for something on a shelf? Core. Get up from seated? Core. Roll over in bed? Core. Put your seatbelt on--you got it. Mothertruckin CORE.

If you strengthen your core, every movement becomes easier! And guess what? You don't even have to do a single sit-up or crunch to get there.
