I was thinking about this after class today.
When I first started my yoga teacher training, I thought I'd become the teacher leading fast-paced, powerful flows. But my instructor kept telling me, "Your style will choose you." At the time, I didn't fully understand what she meant.
As I explored different styles and taught throughout my practicum, something became very clear. The classes that felt most like me were the ones that invited people to slow down. To breathe. To let go of the constant noise for just a little while.
That's the yoga I love to teach.
I believe yoga should be accessible to everyone, which is one of the reasons I genuinely enjoy offering free community classes. It's never been just about movement. It's about creating a space where people can arrive exactly as they are, without expectations or pressure.
Stillness isn't the absence of thoughts. It's that moment when you stop fighting them. When you notice your breath, soften your shoulders, scan your body, and simply accept yourself exactly where you are in that moment.
The funny thing is, while I hope my students leave class feeling a little lighter, teaching does the very same thing for me. It reminds me to slow down, to be present, and to find peace right alongside them.
There's something incredibly special about a community coming together, taking a deep breath, and remembering that it's okay to pause.
Thank you to everyone who continues to show up on your mat with me. You remind me every class why I love doing this. π§ββοΈπ
